bug rubber?? My Yorkie does a strange thing. She rubs her neck on insects!! Does anyone have a yorkie that does this. I want to know why they do this!!! :animal-pa |
Since you brought it up...our male was rubbing on the grass a few weeks ago and I walked over to see what he was doing, and he was rollong on a dead frog. I asked him what he was doing....and all he did was look at me like I was crazy!! Why do dogs to this yucky behavior?? |

My boys do it too, They are partial to worms on the concrete after a spring rain. (that could be a new yankee candle fragrance) LOVE the title, bug rubber..... I hate to admit it, but I was intrigued!! |
We have a door at the building where I work that does not fit tightly on the bottom. Whenever it rains, we get about 50 worms that crawl under the door. Of course when they get it, they die and dry out. If I take my baby with me when I go there after a rain, she loves to roll on the dead, dry worms.:confused: |

Sammy does it a LOT. Loki has only done it a few times on worms on the sidewalk. I have no clue why they do it, but I'd sure like to know. They go outside more than a dozen times a day and with all the bugs out right now I feel bad telling them to stop - they sure look like they are having fun. :confused: |
i think it is them discovering the scent. they want to be covered in it to enjoy it fully. edgar just rubs around on our carpet, thankfully! |

So that's what Max is doing when he rubs his little body around in grass! He just loves it. I thought he was enjoying the feeling of the grass. Now I know the truth - he just wants to smell sexy in Bug Rubber, the latest Yorkie cologne. He's just too sexy for his coat. |

Ick for awhile it was dead snails he would crack them open then roll around on them. Many moons ago I read in the Mother Earth news that dogs roll in dead smelly things because thier sense of smell is so much more than ours that the odor actually gets them euphoric, yep its makes them feel good. |

One day I was walking my boys with a friend near a lake. We stopped and were talking and I can feel the leash of one my boys going nuts in my hand. I look down and hes like a maniac on the ground, rolling over & over and just going nuts. I laughed and then caught a glimpse of what was under him. A DEAD FISH!!!! soooooooooo gross!!! I didnt want to touch him for the rest of the day til I got him home and in the bath! eeewww Mine don't roll on bugs though, they much prefer to eat them all! and then try to give me lots & lots of kisses! eewwwww They are sooooo cute sometimes I forget they are DOGS! and dogs do, do some gross things! haha |

Here is another one.....Harley can catch scinks (little lizards) that live in our bushes and climb on pool screens, and he doesn't kill then, just plays with them, rolling on then, picking them up, until I see what he is doing and make him let the poor things go. He looks at me like I am the meanest thing, but he has been known to bring the things into the house...have you ever tried to catch one of those things??? |
Is a scink like a salamander? I love those, but I usually don't roll around in them. |
... A Rose By Any Other Name...... I think there is a difference in opinion regarding what makes the best perfume. Chizzie prefers the Horse Poo scent, while tiny little Peppy prefers the "It's dead" scent. As for me -- I LOVE MinkSheen! |
My Zada has never rolled in anything but Azrael will flop like a fish out of water when she picks up ANY scent. Even when I put clean sheets on the bed she will flop all over them and the pillows. One morning I put a dryer sheet on the LR carpet and she did the flopping all over it. One way to get them smelling nice I guess. :p |
