I need HELP, yall!!! :( (I use to post here a long time ago, I'm Jenn and have a yorkie named Taylah and a pom named Daphne) Here is my problem.. I need HELP and suggestions!! So today we took the girls to a recommended groomer next to the town where I work. Dh took me to work today so he could drop them off. Anyways, we are pleased somewhat with how at least Daphne came out, but Taylah they could have done better, but at least shes groomed! Okay.. so Dh gets them home and Taylah (yorkie) goes absoluetely not like herself. He said he seen her *wandering* around like it was her first day here, and he even wondered if it was even HER! (it is her, I know her face, and her body and she has a little mole on the back of her neck that I seen and felt for, so it is her) But now, she's fine around the house but still kinda skiddish with Dh and all but fine with me. But here is what has me concerned... Daphne and Taylah are attacking each other! Like when they are together and on the bed or even clsoe to each other when we are all standing they go nuts on each other and Taylah starts to bite Daphne and then of course Daphne responds back to defend herself. Yeah, they fight and so forth and pick, but this is CRAZY.. it's growing at each other and MEAN biting to each other!! We had to separate them and while Dh did when I was at work Taylah went CRAZY and was even trying to get down to get at Daphne and so Dh was holding her back and she scratched the sh*t outta his neck!! What is WRONG with my girls??? They weren't like this ever and now back from a groomer and this happens?? I have a feeling that Taylah is *embarrassed* by her cut since it's different then a normal puppy cut she normally gets and thats why she is hiding and kinda skiddish.. but attacking?? Is this normal? I need help!!! Or advice or something.. This is so not like my girls and I'm not sure what to think!! ANY ideas?? What on earth can I do?? :( |
My first thought is that the groomer might have drugged them. I hope they all get back to normal soon. That must be very disturbing. |
oh WOW.. Drugged?? WHy would someone do that?? that makes my skin crawl just thinking someone would THINK about doing that to my babies!! |
That was my thought too and I really hope that wasn't the case...and yes I think they do feel 'embarrassment' - I'd try holding them together - one on each side and just sit a while - let them just settle in & maybe things will get back to normal - I don't know what to tell you but I'd be upset too. |

How are they doing now??? |
When yall say drug, do you mean like BAD something, or maybe something to calm her down to nto be so skiddish?? They are separate right now.. the pom is by my feet and my yorkie (Taylah) is laying on the couch. :( They only seem to go after one another when we are playing wth them or close to both of them and they all of a sudden go after each other. ?? |

The fighting can be due to each of the girls fighting for Alpha position. I have 2 females that do it on occasion. Yes, the do get embarrassed, but the do get over it fairly quickly |
your pup was most likely sedated if she didnt like being groomed tried to bite or wouldnt hold still when they are waking from sedation they are scared and will bite they shake their heads from side to side vocalize and are disoriented it takes them hours to awake fully from being sedated but if that was done you should have been informed also if they sedate they arent supposed to have food for awhile before or it could make them vomit i hope your baby will be ok and i would call and ask them if they sedated her |
I had my Molly groomed today too and when we got home it took a long, long time before our other dog, a Bernese Mountain dog, recognized her as herself. He always sniffs and sniffs when she comes back from grooming. Could it be that they aren't sure who the other one is yet? If so - this will clear up fast... Kathy |
Thanks everyone. I just don't understand it. My husband brought them by for me to see after they were done and they were fine with each other in the car and when we went out to lunch with them. Just when he got them home he noticed it and then I seen it too when I got home. :( Just is odd and not like them. |
Drugged:confused: omg dont they need permission for that? i have never hear of that before, i would be angry if a groomer did that to my baby:( i know they do act a bit different when they first come home, but usually it only last for a little while, hope things get better for you soon. |

I definitely think scent plays a role, too. Years ago, when our 15-year-old cat was still a young'n, we bathed him outside. His dog "sister" (RIP Buffy, a stray Heinz 57 who died a few years back) also got a bath. When they were reunited, the cat went nuts. He attacked the dog. He attacked us. He wouldn't go near any of his beds. He wouldn't eat. He ran around almost incessantly. This went on for a day or two. After that, it was as if nothing had ever happened. It was odd. We never used that shampoo again though!:) |
That's aweful if a groomer drugs your dog, especially without your permission. No groomer is qualified to administer a sedative to any dog so they shouldn't be doing it period. Where I work, if the owner feels it would be best for their dog to be sedated, they can give their dog a sedative before they bring the dog in. We always recommend that they call their vet first to find out which sedative would be best and for correct dosage information. But I've never heard of a groomer sedating a dog themselves. If a dog come in that is too difficult to groom, they work with the dog the best they can, but if it's not possible to groom the dog they will send it home. It's better to send the dog home ungroomed than to risk the dog's safety as well as the groomer's safety. We had one dog that we had to send home the first time, and we had them bring the dog in a couple weeks in a row and just walk it around the store giving their dog treats and having the groomers and bathers give it treats. Then they brought it back in for another appointment. There was a lot more treat giving and slowly working with the dog, and now she does really well. They still have to go slow with her but she was in today and did great. In fact, her owner said they were about to move a couple hours away but would drive back to have her groomed since she was doing well with us. Anyways - I guess I said that because it always shocks and scares me to hear of some of the grooming horror stories. Makes me VERY wary to take my dog to a grooming place when I move away from here. But I know that there are some great groomers out there as well. When I move away I will definitely be extra careful when picking out a groomer. |
