I need some help!! Just got our new puppy! She is the cutest thing in the whole world, but her mom could use alittle bit of help. First, she bites EVERYTHING!! Furniture, shoes, cords (X box 360 powercord is her favorite-Dad was pissed) you name it. Is there any good ideas about how to teach her not to do that? Second, she is doing very well with potty training, but whenever we do something that upset her (such as a bath, trim ears, etc) she "forgets" to use the puppy pad and pees right in front of me!! I dont know if it is an accident but it only seems to happen when she is angry. What do I do? Thirdly, I just wanted to know how old they are when they get their first hair cut? And lastly (sorry so long) she is going into the vet on friday and has not had her first check up yet (this is the best vet I have heard and the first apt I could get) What do I need to have the vet check? What quesitons should I ask? Any help would be great. Thanks so much!!! |
Welcome to YT. We've had lots of new members today. As far as chewing goes. I would suggest to puppy-proof the house until the chewy stage is over. I don't really see any other way during this phase. It'll be the safest thing for your baby without having to confine her all the time. It won't last forever, but it may seem like it!! I don't know about the other questions, but you'll get good advice here. Congrats on your new baby. |
Congratulations on your new baby:) You'll have to post pics so we can ooh and ahh over her! My Hoku learned not to bite cords and such just by me saying 'no wires' but Kalani is being a little pill and even the clear deodorant doesn't stop him so I just picked up some Bitter Yuck (it contains rosemary) from Petsmart and he took one sniff and has stayed far away from the stereo wires since. My two tended to pee when they were stressed from baths, grooming, when I vacuumed, etc. but have gotten better as they've gotten older. I groom them myself but if I had taken them to a groomer I would've waited till they had most of their shots - especially the bordatella/kennel cough. |
Hi, Welcome to yt, I have molly who is almost 14 weeks, and she is going thru the same thing, trying to bite everything, she even got hold of the remote:eek: dont ask me how:confused: I keep tons of toys out in her area and when she strays i chase her down and tell her no, firmly! it will get better as she gets older:) best to you and your new baby:) |

Welcome Welcome to YT, and I think its all been said, there is a product called Bitter Apple....never used it but its to spray on things you do not want the puppt to chew....Bitter taste and babie do not like it. maybe google it and find out if it is something you could use? |
Here's what worked for us... For Bella, one of the best bits of advice that I received was to keep her surroundings to a minimum such as using a wire circular pen, playpen, gates, etc.. Also, having piddle pads EVERYWHERE in the beginning was instrumental in familiarizing her to their purpose. When I used the restroom...so, did Bella! Consistency can't be stressed enough in this area ;) Chewing is just a natural puppy desire especially when they are teething so, chew toys are a must and if you can keep one in your pocket...seriously, it's worth not having your furniture or fingers from being ravaged by those darlings! I really believe that all of those things helped in Bella making such a smooth transition plus a lot of patience, love & cuddles! All the best of luck to you and your darling:littleang |
