I'm so worried...I found tick! So I was doing laundry and dishes and all the sudden my boyfriend said BABE come here now! So I walked over to see Sophie laying beside him and some wet stuff on the couch......I thought he was going to tell me she peed on the couch but then he pointed to this huge tick engorged with blood! I was shocked....she must have pulled it off herself...the head was still attached...it was just laying on the couch beside her....I think it was stuck to her paw because that was where she kept licking. She had K9 advantix applied on June 12th....however she had to have a bath a few days later because of a accident in her kennel. So I am so worried about her! Should I call the vet? What would you do? P.S. it wansn't pee....just slobber from her licking her paw so much. |
Do you know what kind of tick. Some carry Lime Disease, some don't. check out this website: http://www.oes.org/html/how_2_identi...ent_ticks.html |
Ticks are AWFUL here, I have all three of mine on Frontline and limit the time outside, I have pulled 3 ticks off Lilli 2 off of Gucci and 1 off of my Maltese. Since the head was still attached I would go ahead and call your Vet to see what they want to do and they will have to get the head out, I got a email the other day and I havent tried this yet but will if one of mine get another one "Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and let it stay on the repulsive insect for a few seconds (15-20), after which the tick will come out on it's own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. Please pass on; everyone needs this helpful hint. |
I guess I should clarify what I said about the head being attached....it was still attached to the tick....it was in one whole peice laying on my couch.....and it looked exactly like the first tick on the website that eaglez28 posted! |
Sorry I thought you meant it was still attached to Sophie ;) Quote:

I heard somewhere to drown the tick in cooking oil, which is what I do. How do you kill the tick after you pull it out? Just curious. |

(I would call my husband!) |
LOL I pull them out and make my Husband kill them, this sounds awful but he takes a lighter to the ticks, dont flush them that wont kill them! Quote:

If you didn't actually find the tick on her, it most likely didn't bite her. I wouldn't worry, nor call your vet. You might want to look her over for any sign of a bite to be treated. |

No need to worry it does Not carry Lime Disease. My Kylee had a Dog Tick on her about 3 mths ago. I was combing her hair & did not notice it untill i pulled it out with the comb. the head stayed in her neck. The Vet said just to leave it alone & it will work its way out. It turned into like a dry patch with a lil bump. about one month later it just lifted out with the scab. |
