Listen to your doggies!!! When I hear about people asking how to get their dogs to stop barking, I always find it strange. Dogs bark and it is their right to do so. They need to bark to tell you things. Well, Chewy is not a yapper but he will bark if he sees his food dish is empty or if we accidentaly close the bathroom door and he needs to get out. Anyway, for the past hour I have been trying to get my son ready for bed and do some house work so I put Chewy in his cage. He started to bark and I just blew it off and shook the can at him. About 15 minutes ago I let him out and he was soaking wet. The poor guy had to pee and was barking for me to let him out and I ignored him and as a result my little sweetie was laying in his pee for half an hour!!!!!! :( He just got a bath and is nice and fresh but I feel so bad. I have to take more time to listen to my pup. |
lol...mean mommie :D - doncha know they will NOT be ignored !! Poor guy - that's pretty smart of him to keep barking for your attention - but it's kind of like the kid who yelled wolf ...sometimes we hear them yap for NO reason - then when they really need us - we're tuning out...poor baby - I hope Mommie learned her lesson ! :D mine always get my attention BIG time - Chanel will get right in my face when she wants something - there is NO ignoring this girl !! |

I totally agree! We have neighbors who have complained about my westie, but she only bsrks when there is a reason to bark. It might that she sees a coyote or a stranger or it might be to tell me that the cat's outside or that someone is at the door. She doesn't just bark to bark and mosts dogs don't! Good point! |
Or if you leave the treats where they can see them! If Rocky can see his treat jar, he will sit and bark at it! Like it might magically open and dispense a treat for him! I have quickly learned to put it way out of his sight! |
I find that Gypsy Rose has different type barks for various occasions!! I understand her barks well. She has a bark to tell me that a dog is being walked and passing the house, that is loud barking... a hint of jealousy perhaps?! She sort of groans to be let out.. each groan getting louder until I respond! She has a bark that means she is annoyed with her sister, another bark which is like a scream when she plays ball (ouch!) but rarely barks for the sake of it. Each bark means something! Gizzie has a really funny voice (she's 11 months) - don't think she's quite developed a "language" yet LOL. Ana xx |
archie hardly ever barks, except if his ball goes under the couch and I'm not in the room to get it for him. But he is known to bark in my neighbor's house (the dogs can door open the door to go in, but they can't open to go come out). Other than that, it's more like he's got different grunts for things that he wants. A big "UGH" means let's play. Little "ughs" are usually for things that he wants. Then, there are the licks. He started this new thing where he scratches the back of my hand with his paw and puts my hand under his chin...pet me? let's go? I'm not sure exactly what it means, but I know it's when he really wants me to do something other than what I'm doing at that moment. |
I just hid Schatzie's new ball so she can "relax"....She is overly obsessed with balls. Well, ok it's been now 20 minutes of non stop barking, panting, whining...totally freaking out and having a doggie panic attack! Trust me, Im listening to her barking! LOL That's it! I give in  I can't take it anymore, fine Schatzie, here's your dang ball! **She stopped barking** Imagine that! |
