Just Spayed....need help!!! My 6 month yorkie just got spayed on Tuesday. She was groggy for a few days but now her stitches must be bothering her. It statred to bleed a little bit this morning and she has been going crazy trying to lick it. i put a t-shirt on her so that she doesn't touch it. But not really helping. What do i do? is this all normal? Please help me help her. |
Did the vet tell you to clean it with first peroxide then neosporin? That might relieve her discomfort. |
I don't have a yorkie yet but I have experience with other pups and cats and usually the stiches will get itchy once the wound starts healing, the pup will want to either lick or scratch at it to relieve him/her self. My vet suggested a cone (the plastic collar) to put around the animals neck to prevent this. Most vet offices rent these out for a small deposit, but once the item is returned your money is returned. Be cautioned though most animals hate these and will fit it once it's on!! Good luck and the pup should be back to it's normal self in a couple of days!!! |
I'd call the vet, any bleeding after surgery should be taken seriously. I hope she feels better soon:love: |
E-collar Go get an e-collar from your vet this morning...I've seen the inside fall out of a dog that was allowed to chew at her spay stitches! it's natural to itch, but don't let her pull them out, too early. roxanne |
It is better safe than sorry! Yes get and E collar that will keep her from itching her stitches. Take her to the vet if she continues to bleed!!! Or Bet yet take her to the vet now!!! Bleeding after surgery is a very bad thing. It is normal for her to want to itch it but you can't let her!!! He insides have to heal too. |
I had an issue like that when I got my two spayed and neutered. The vet in his 20 years of practice, never gave out e collars, because in his experience, the dogs he treated never licked or scratched them. I said to myself "oh no.. my dogs would be the exception rather than the rule." And they were. Teddy licked most of his stitches off within a 5 hr period, Theresa was doing the same. I had to take them to the emergency VET to make sure their stitches weren't coming undone.. and have the fitted for the ecollars. I must have the best Emergency VET in the area.. THEY CHARGED ME NOTHING for seeing my dogs, and I didn't even have to pay for the ecollars. I was soooo grateful. They faxed my information over to my vet, and my vet called the very next day, to tell me, "your dogs are the exception. But I thank you for not over reacting about it. I do have the ecollars, but most pets never have to use them." So...the moral of the story: GET AN ECOLLAR.. Trust me it will save your grief in the long run (and worry too!) ASHLEY |
Get a Oncie for preemies ! But first i would have vet check it, mine never had bleeding after surgery, better safe then sorry and avoid pain to the poor baby ! |
itching at the stitches is normal for most dogs. And the bleeding is probably just a little bit of drainage that occured because she was messing with it. You need to get her a cone to prevent her from itching and licking the stitches. If she doesn't mess with the incision it will heal faster and better. Irritated incisions take longer to heal and complications can arise if she continues to irritate it. |
I would call the vet about the bleeding and then try the preemie onesie. If that doesn't work, you'll have to go with the ecollar. But, I would definitely call the vet immediately. It could be nothing, but bleeding is not a good thing. |
