I Think He Is Younger Than I Was Told Hi. Before I ask the question. I would like explain myself first. In New Zealand it is common to get a puppy at 8 weeks old and they are often sold younger. I already own little Tilly who I got at 7 weeks and she is doing really well and is now 16 weeks. Yesterday I received my little Alfie a Maltese. I meet the breeder a couple of hours drive away ( she drove and meet me half way). While Alfie is perfect and obviously very well looked after I have to question his age. He only has his two fang teeth at the top. I was told the puppy was 7 weeks. How old do you think he may be. Please don't give me a hard time for purchasing a pup so young, but like I said it is common here. |
Could you post a picture of the puppy so we can see or is it the puppy in your avatar? |
No the pup in the picture is Tilly she is my yorkie and is 16 weeks old. |
I got a pup once at 6 weeks (was told he was older) and it's also very common that pups are sold at 8 weeks down here. I didn't know his true age until I received his papers which took an act of God and a lawsuit threat to receive. When I got him, he had his canine teeth and his regular teeth were pushing through. I will say that if your pup has only been fed soft foods, it will take longer for the teeth to push through. When I have pups, I start feeding them moistened/hard food around 5 1/2 - 6 weeks of age. It helps those teeth to come through. Do you have any documentation on the age of your pup? |
Here in Spain it's also common to get puppies at 6 to 8 weeks old. |
Not dog related but I got both my cats at 4 weeks old. They had both been on solid food and the vet had said they could go. they are a year apart, but they were so tiny! |
I got Lillie at 8 wks also. her canines were in but her others hadn't poked through yet. |
