Do your Babies get Car Sick? Hi Everyone, :wave4: I have a little furbaby that is 4 1/2 months old, lately everytime I take her for a drive she gets sick, even on very short drives. I usually have the window down or air conditioning on so she has lots of cool air but this doesn't seem to be helping either. For the first couple of months she was great in the car this just started occuring in the last couple of weeks, anyone else out there encountering the same problem and will she eventually get used to the car drives? Thanks in advance, Maria's Mom |
My yorkie doesn't, but Oliver, my shih poo does. If the ride is longer than about 15 minutes. He throws up. and bless his heart, he tries not to get it in his car seat. I make sure he doesn't go on long trips now. I don't know if they eventually get used to it or not. |
Hi , yes my karleigh does, everytime i take her to the groomers she thows up, and they tell me not to feed her before i bring her, but i cant do that, she is diabetic:( poor babys, i think its from the ride it upsets there tummys. |
Pixie throws up just about every time I take her in the car, And she usually throws up on Cali as I have them in the same carrier. |
What if you didn't feed her for a few hours before traveling? Thankfully, my two aren't. I travel about 5 hours each way about once a month and my two do great. Brooklyn loves it.. he normally sleeps almost the entire time. Britney is a little more nervous, but she normally settles down and goes to sleep. |
What type of carrier are you using? My Tobi threw up when we used the Outward Hound car seat..but after we switched and started using a small plastic crate, Tobi stopped getting car sick. Maybe switching up the carrier and strapping your pup in will make them less likely to become car sick. :goodluck: |
I believe the same as humans. I become carsick if I am a passenger especially on winding roadways. My miniature schnauzer would be salivating as soon as the engine started. Poor little thing. Sophie never became sick, and Charlie...he loves car rides and think he would try to drive if permitted. |

Mine did. But at about 5 months she stopped getting car sick |
I'm glad you made this thread cause Teddy seems to hate car rides. He won't sit still and gets all nervous. London doesn't mind and just goes to sleep. |
Just keep takng her on car rides alot of tmes theyy outgrow it. My Jewels used to get sick every tme she was in the car. Now she only does every now and then during long rides. I have taken her on two hour rides and her not get sick then turn around and take her on an hour rde and her get sick so there is no rhyme or reason to when she does or doesnt |
Ellie used to get carsick all the time and then it kind of let up. Well, it's back. Sometimes 15 minutes of riding will set her off and other times it takes almost 2 hours. A vet told us once that the lower an animal rides in a vehicle (best on floor) the less sick they get. I really don't know if that's true and am not making her stay on the floor. I also have heard that giving them some Gingersnap cookie before leaving helps settle their stomach but I have never tried it. |
Bengi does get car sick, in fact, he absolutely loves car rides! But I don't that some dogs don't like it, or don't feel well while riding. |
Lucy gets carsick, but Rebel doesn't. I've tried Rescue Remedy (helps some) and giving her a tiny piece of a dramamine (per her vet) . She still gets sick most of the time when in the car. |
So far so good with Lucy ::keeping my fingers crossed:: I make sure to take her out several times a week in the car (actually any time I possibly can). I hope she doesn't grow into car sickness:eek: |
