Why do I have regrets? I just got buddy, he is 4 months, and a very sweet dog...sometimes. The thing is, he nips at my feet, and he also trys to eat my hair, and parts of clothing. I know I have to be consistent, but he is so much work that I am beginning to wonder if getting him was the right choice :( PLEASE DON'T HATE ME! any help? :( |

Don't worry....I had the same exact feeling each time I got a new puppy. It can be VERY overwhelming at times. But, I'll tell you what I kept telling myself..."Yorkies aren't the 2nd most popular breed in American for no reason." Yorkies are wonderful. If they didn't turn out to be such great dogs, no one would have a yorkie. After you get passed the rough puppy stage you will know what everyone is talking about. Just be consistent and hang in there. It will get easier every day, I promise!!!!!!! |
It can be tiring at times when they do that, just keep repeating, "This to shall pass..." mine would always try to chew our hands when ever we tried to pet him, he was just teething, I just kept telling him no, & would remove myself from him & give him a chew stick...it will get better...;) |
I noticed on your profile that you're in high school. Have you every had a puppy before? This is what puppies do - they nip, bite, pee and poop everywhere - but if they're properly trained, they turn out to be a JOY!!!! Just hang in there!! |
Think it through. I hate to sound negative but dogs aren't for everyone. Dogs are a lot of fun when you pet and play with them, but owning one means cleaning, training, ect. I think you need to think of what you really want. |
Hi there, I know it seems over whelming at times, but please give it some time, you will love buddy so much:) he will stop the chewing,& biting in time,yorkie are such a joy:) but they can also be alot of work, there are days when even i think , omg is this to much:rolleyes: but as soon as i look at them the thought goes away, i love them all so much:D |

I think that's normal. I did the same thing when I added Oliver to the family. I think about how easy it would've been to just throw Otis in the car and go, and now I have to lug 2 of them around. But he's soooo worth it. After the puppy stage is over I think you'll feel better. My boys have so much fun together. Hang in there, don't give up on him. He'll reward your patience and determination with lots of love. |
Hang in there, I felt the same way about Ahia when we first got her. I thought we had taken on too much. but believe me, they get thru that stage and you will be just fine. |
aww try to hang in there if you can and be patient. Once he is done teething, he will stop with the biting. But, in the meantime, be firm when you tell him NO and he will get it. good luck! |
Its hard, and it does take consistancy. I'm soooo glad that I didn't get my Wobie when I was in high school, there is just way too much other stuff to worry about, and not enough time to really train and spend time with a puppy. So for now, you just have to be strong, and remember that this time will pass, and he won't be a crazy puppy forever. Stay firm. :D |
I agree with everything that's been said and maybe knowing you're not alone helps a little? We've probably all felt a little overwhelmed when our babies were puppies. They can be a big handfull sometimes. Make sure he has things he likes to chew on and when he's biting redirect him to those things. It gets easier- I promise!;) |
I think we ALL go through these thoughts of whether a dog is right for us when we first get a dog. I clearly remember it....all the work poured in initially when we took Zoe home.....after a long day of work. Sometimes it was fustrating and tiring. Now that she is properly trained to live with us, there's less 'work' and more ''fun'. She is well behaved, understand when we communicate key pharases and she is SUCH a joy to have around. As everyone else mentions, work on training them...get a professional trainer to help you...take them to a puppy class...it's not too expensive if you do group training. On the other hand, dogs/pets are not for everyone. Good luck! |
