Introducing new yorkies to the family - help! I've had my little girl Baby now who is about a year and a half old and a few weeks ago I introduced Riley (boy) who is now 9 weeks old to our house. She hasn't taken very well to him; she steals his food, toys, and bones. She's a very jealous little dog so she doesnt want me to give attention to anyone else, but I'm still making sure to give her A TON of attention. He's been sick lately so I've been very protective but she keeps trying to nip at him or tug at his ears (sometimes I know she just wants to play) but she has been too rough with him. I can't leave them alone because I know she will be too rough and bully him. Also, he tries to curl up with her when she's sleeping and if she notices, she will get up and walk away. She's a VERY loving dog, but I dont like this side of her... Is this normal? is there anything I can do to get them better acquainted? |
Anyone? |
Yes, her behavior is quite normal she just needs a little more time to get used to him. I imagine before long they'll be inseperable. |
She will get better We have had Emmy since last May...she has been an "only child" for over a year. We got a new baby 2 weeks ago, Oscar. She was and still is extremely jealous when WE HOLD HIM. Otherwise she is fine. Sometimes she is a bit rough with him, nipping his ears and such, but most of the time, now, they are playing with each other--mainly racing around the room--I can never tell who is doing the chasing--Emmy or Oscar! I have noticed that when Emmy goes into another room, if Oscar does not follow her, she will go back and "Get him." She will get behind him and sort of prod him along until he gets in gear. She ALWAYS knows where he is! To help with the holding him problem, my hubby and I take turns taking one outside and snuggling with the other. It seems to be working! Good luck! |
Hi, yes its normal:) I just got molly last week, and had to introduce her to my other 3, the first few days none of them liked her, exp, karleigh my other girl, but now a week later and they play quite good together, and karleigh is 3 they do get a bit rough with her at times but i guess thats how they adjust, it will get better, molly is a stinker:rolleyes: she really cracks me up though. |
When we got the dog, the big cat didn't like him at all. We just found that paying a lot of attention to the cat still let her know that we weren't going to forget about her...and everything's fine now. Of course, the cat DID swipe and actually make the dog bleed once.... |
