How big is your...
 
ex-pen???? My parents dogsit while I'm at work, and my dad does a lot of work outside. He wants to tether Paddington, so that he can enjoy the yard even when my dad is engrossed in a job and can't keep a close eye on him (he's started to run over to our neighbor to say hi, which is scary) but I would rather set up an ex-pen for him to run around in. My dad is always outside with Paddington, just sometimes gets involved with his work. I really don't want my baby tethered, especially since there are coyotes in the woods around our house. But I don't want him in his Kennel all day either.

I went to look at ex-pens today and the only size they had seemed pretty small- not enough room for him to really play in. For those who use a pen, how big is yours? We have a pretty big yard...

I'm not sure exactly how big mine is, but its decent sized, enough room for Wobie to run around a little. Try combining two ex-pens to get the size you want. Or try baby pens, they might be cheaper and bigger.

The play yards are really nice too, and you can make them different sizes.:)

We also have coyotes. Just be careful of the coyotes they can jump a 6 foot fence. I do not let mine in the yard alone unless I am watching them.

:eek: they can jump that high? I've never seen one, but we can hear them and my dad said that there are quite a few around. Paddington is never in the yard alone; my dad just wants to keep him from running off while he's trying to work on his sailboat or in the garden. He usually stays close by, but when he sees our neighbors out in their yards he forgets his manners and runs away from us to them. My neighbors love him and don't mind a bit, but I don't want him to run to a stranger passing by who might steal him! There are tops for some of the pens I looked at, maybe I should look at one of those? I am also scared about hawks- I saw one grab a squirrel and rip it apart in seconds right in front of me not too far from our house.

That's a scary situation with the hawk...a top might be a good bet, could you get one that was like screen or mesh material, so that he could still enjoy being outside?

I have two children's super yards put together and it makes a huge area for even my 4 dogs to run around in. :)
