New here and could really use some advice... Please!!!
 

Hi, I am new to this forum as for that matter new to owning a pet and I am so lucky I get to start with a Yorkie! I have read so much and learned a lot here. I thank all of you that are here and giving great information. So that brings me to why I am here. I have a great, energetic and loving 4 month baby but as a recommendation on a vet from my in-laws I think I made the biggest mistake by taking him there by what I feel was mean and uncaring treatment. So I have come to you to maybe tell me I am over reacting because I am very new to having a pet.

Peanut needed his second round of shots and he was digging at his ear (one night just running around squealing and shaking his head) I made an appointment and he went in today. The Vet looked in his ears and the next thing I know he grabs his head holds it down on the table and starts ripping hair out. My poor Peanut screamed and cried so load I just yelled what are you doing he said grooming him that’s what you have to do with these kinds of dogs. It took all I could do to hold it together and not cry. He put some clear stuff then started stuffing cotton down in his ear cleaning it. He gave me something Gentizol to put in his ears.

Now you can’t touch his ears he screams. I read some things on here about cleaning the ears but I couldn’t find anything on why the hair has to be pulled out. Any advice would be great. Sorry so long I can be long winded and wordy! Thank you

Awww, that poor baby. The hair in the ears does need to be plucked but it sounds like your vet made it a very scary experience for both of you. I leave it to my groomer and when it's done properly it doesn't bother them at all. Welcome to YT!:)

Hello & welcome to Y.T.!!! Yes, the ear hair does get removed but the way the vet did it sounds a bit extreme :eek: I don't know if I would go back there again.....

Thank you for the welcome and no I don't think I will use him. Its like when I had to find doctors for my girls you just know they are what you want. I really think that same instinct applies.

How terrible:cry: Yes, the hair should come out, but a professional groomer can do it with minimal pain and trauma:unlove: I'm sorry that you and your baby had to go through that:(

What part of Florida are you in? Find a breeder near you and find out who their vet is, and if they can recommend a good groomer too.

Hi, im sorry you and peanut had to experience that, it should be done , but the right way, i agree with everyone else, let your groomer do it , they always do my babys and they never have pain or need drops.

I would have freaked out too:eek: The hair does need to come out of the ears though...Like others have said here, you could have a groomer do it or you could do it yourself. This is how I do it....When I am giving the girls their baths I use "oticlean" to GENTLY clean the inside of their ears. I wash them and lightly wet (you don't want to get water in the ear) the inside of the ear and then use my eyebrow plucker to pluck the hair out. I'm sure it doesn't feel good to have this done but, when the hair is wet it is easier to pluck out and I feel isn't as painful.
