Please be ever so careful with these leashes. A good friend who breeds yorkies just told me that someone she sold a yorkie to had hers hit by a car because of them. She crossed the street and the leash let her run back into the street before she could lock it again. So tragic.

I never use and never will use a retractable leash . My neighbor was walking in the park with her puppy . She had a retractable leash . A big dog came out of nowhere and attacked the little one . The girl never had time to pull the puppy back to her . Puppy is in intensive care unit .

When Trixie lost her eyesight we put her on a long retractable.We found if we put the handle on a hook about head height and attached to her harness she did not get tangled up.The height of the handle kept it up in the air.She happily wandered in and out the kitchen like this.:D

I like flexi leashes, and frequently use them even w/all 4 of my dogs at once, HOWEVER I think so many people use them irresponsibly..

You have to be on top of that leash if it isn't locked and to make sure you are adjusting it accordingly and not letting the dog get too far in front of you. Regardless of if people have a 4 lb puppy or a 140 lb puppy, it's no excuse to let them have a free for all where others are around.

But to answer the question, LOL - I like the long better, but I have both :)

They make stake in flexi leashes for your yard.. I'm not sure what they're called exactly but I've seen them online before. It's not the FLEXI brand though.

It's all in the button on the handle. Don't be embarrassed. The instructions tell you to practice using it in the house before you take the dog outside with it.

I also attached a real leash handle to the plastic handle, because that slips out of my hand too easily.
