Do people think you've lost the plot...
 

because of how you spoil your yorkies? My family doesn't say anything (at least not to me), but my son-in-law's family are always making remarks. They can't believe that when I visit my daughter, I bring toys for Jake to play with in his own bag (they refer to it as a "diaper bag"...or that he wears clothes...or that I will follow him around with a camera...or that I take so many pictures of him....etc., etc., blah blah blah

I'm sure they all think I've either lost it or maybe it's menopause:rolleyes: I actually think it's funny, and I talk about him just to tick them off. I know they think I'm ridiculous, but who am I hurting? What's so bad about loving your dog? Jake is very well behaved despite being spoiled, so what's the big deal? I see them :rolleyes: to each other when I'm playing with him or talking to him. Just wait until his 1st birthday, and I take pictures of his little party and make them suffer through them :p

What do your families and friends think?

hehe they think I'm nuts! lol I also always have my camera with me wherever my babies are, I take extra clothes for them when we go out, their food, their diapers, incase and my mom always complains that i waste all my money on them and I'm like you don't understand mom they NEED lifejackets, etc. LOL She's like dogs don't need all that. Oh well, they are mine and its my money and i buy them what i want. And since i don't have real kids then why not? I need something to spoil :D I have also had friends be like "Do you love your dogs more than me??" And in my head im like uhh yeah lol When they were puppies they would want me to go out all the time and i'd be like i can't leave them alone. They don't understand sometimes.

For the most part, all of my relatives like Wobie. They think he's the cutest little dog. The thing is...I know he's a d-o-g, but I really don't think of him that way, or act like it. Thats what they make comments about. They think I'm crazy to have a baby book for him, crazy to have so many clothes, crazy that everything he has is so expensive, etc...

I don't get it either. I really think they don't have any right to make comments as long as I'm a happy person because of my baby, and my little one is a happy little yorkie because of the way he's treated.

I relate so much to you sometimes. :D

My mom hates that I spend so much money on Wobie, but I suppose she has that right to, since she does pay a significant amount of my tuition.

But I ask her, "Would you rather me be a teenage mother that spoils her human baby rotten...or a yorkie owner that treats her yorkie the way he should be treated?" that usually settles it...;)

And my friends always ask, "Do you love Wobie more than me?" but I'm not as polite as you. I say yes out loud! :p

I have two Bichons and my family thinks it's fine that I love them and treat them well because we're a family of animal lovers. My sister says in her next life, she wants to be one of my dogs. But, some of the people I used to work with made remarks, I'm sure, and I never let it bother me. On the other hand, if anyone I worked with had a question about their dog, they came to me, so although some thought I might be nuts, some thought it was my business and took advantage of the fact that I knew about dogs. Some people criticize anyone who doesn't think like they do, so you can't let what people think or say bother you. People criticize your looks, your family, your friends, your weight, your ethnic heritage, where you choose to live or work, and your pets. I've found that people who love dogs and animals probably love kids and people, too, and tend to be friendly and caring. I've also found that the biggest detractors are usually spending lots of money on golf or fishing or some hobby and don't spend much time with their families. Just an observation. The benefits of owning pets have been proved, so don't let people bother you! Pet owners also outnumber non-pet owners, so rest assured that you have a lot of good company.

Yea my mom pays for my tuition too, and my dad but my dad doesn't say anything about the money i spend :) My mom bugs me, I should say what you say to yours. That should work, I know that she would not want me to be pregnant :D Never thought of saying that. And you have courage, I couldn't of said that to my friend, she would have gone crazy lol..so i just keep it to myself :p

My family loves Bengi. Although sometimes they think I spoil him too much. They laught at things that I do, like the clothes, the b-day party, the "special" treats, the "natural" food, etc. They want me to have a baby, so they don't want me to just have a furkid. I'll have a baby when the time comes, but now, Bengi is my baby, so they have to understand that once and for all.
Oh, and a few times they said "and she went to college?" like I'm acting childish. I hate that!!!

My grown kids always accuse me of treating my babies better than I ever treated them. I, too, carry a 'diaper' bag for them. I mean, what if you get stuck somewhere and they have no clean water or food???? I keep a comb and treats, as well as, baggies and paper towels to pick up 'you know what'. Am I nuts? Yes I am... nuts about yorkies!!!!

Well I have never heard it put that way "lost your plot" but yes I think they do think I have. I cant blame them though, because before I got my yorkies I thought the same thing about people and their dogs that they were so crazy about. Now that I have the yorkies I see things a whole new way and cant imagine my life without them.

I don't over do it with my dogs but hey to each their own. Tell them to take a flying leap. Your not asking them to buy him toys or anything else so let them mind their business.

My MIL lives 7 hours away and we almost never see her. I haven't even told her about my dogs. :eek: She's the type that thinks animals should be outdoors.. she hates animals in her house. So.... I'm thinking I'm not even going to bother to tell her how many fluff butts I have or how they live. :rolleyes: I took a small dog along once when we went to visit her and she wasn't thrilled. :D (I DID ask first)

People think I'm a bit odd anyways.... so who cares??? :yelrotflm

Mine think Im ok for the most part! I don't dress up my boys or take tons of pics. But I do run home to them, or cancel plans just to stay in with them. I do carry around the doggy bag with food, treats, extra harnesses (my boys tend to chew them off) and toys! I dont think that is weird at all! They are always on my lap and I never shoo them away. My friends & family think its normal! I think they find it really funny that I wont go to bed with dirty feet, but I'll let both my boys sleep under the covers NO PROBLEM! hahaha

I have family members who make fun of Jack and I about the way we SPOIL Seth and Sasha. I just tell them their boat or whatever they spend their money on does not give them kisses, and unconditional love, To each his own and we prefer to spend our money on our babies. By the way I am not slamming anyone with a boat :D

My family loves Tobey but does think I am a little too obsessive over him. My mom thinks dogs wearing clothes is absolutely ridiculous. My parents and in-laws have both made fun of me for packing Tobey his own bag when we travel to visit. But it is like having a kid! They need their toys and blankets and food bowls, treats, potty pads, etc! That's not crazy!

I think it is perfectly natural to want to buy things for your pup. They bring us so much joy, and it's not hurting anyone, so why do people care?!

I only have dog lover friends, so I don't have anyone thinking I'm nuts just because I have a pink tote with toys, treats, wipes and camera. :D (and it wouldn't matter a darn bit if anyone did). I "perceive" them to be (what I get the most pleasure) my little girl babies.
