Need Advice Please On Peep Pads I sure hope someone on here can tell me how to get my lttle one to stop eatting his peep pad. He uses the pad great but once I change it and leave him in his room its destoryed. Now, when I leave for work we have to keep him in his crate and we want him to be able to run lose in the landury area. He knows it's his potty place and its not just the pad.. when in the house we have to keep bathroom doors closed because it's fair game to him. He has a bigggggggg problem with paper. Here's something funny also. He hates to step in his peep he can't stand it. Sometimes he will not use the pad but onceand then he will stand there and look up at me like "will aren't you going to change it". So when I put the new one down he will go to it and peep away. Any help would be wonderful. OH, I forgot to mention he's 7 months old. He is pretty much housebroken and goes into his room to potty but I have to make sure I keep an eye out because of the paper thing. He has gotton chocked several times on the cotton in the pad. Thank you, Jana :yorkietal |
I bought a holder for a pee pad at Petsmart..... and it is made to keep them from tearing them up..... I got it because my Samson will stand over his pad and still pee on the floor because he doesn't wait to get his entire body over the pad ... and it works for that... it is called a Premium Pad Training Tray and is made by Iris.... very neat... it is made sort of like a picture frame .... and clamps down on the pad to hold it in place... ] Hope this helps... |
I just checked online and Amazon has the Iris dog training pad trays.... in 3 sizes... small, med. and large... I got the medium on that is Iris 301561... it has good reviews too... the meduim holds the 17X24 size pads... |
I bought washable reclaimed bed pads from http://www.valethics.com I was going through the disposables SO quickly and now I just pop them in the washer with hot water, detergent, bleach, and vinegar in the rinse cycle and they're good as new. Having 2 dogs, I do have to wash them twice a week, but it's cheaper and better for the environment;) Good luck! |
I'm so glad I found your post about reclaimed pads. That's such a great idea, and a very good alternate to pee pads. I just ordered some. |
Reminds me of the old days when people actually washed diapers..... I can't imagine doing that anymore.... Do you wash towels that you use to dry your face with in the same washing machine??? Oh My!!!!! |
Gracie has a paper fetish as well. Nothing makes her happier than to shred newspaper, scrap paper, paper towels, kleenex, you got it. If baby does not shred used pee pads, you might try putting two down and overlapping them, putting the unused one on the bottom. The other thing you might try is misting some bitter apple or other chew repellant on the pee pad, Lastly, it might very well be a thing that your baby will outgrow. When Gracie was younger, she loved to shred her pee pads. I have not yet found a pee pad holder that beat her! I ended up tucking a couple ends of it under the side of her ex pen and that finally slowed her down. She finally just grew out of it. |
Max grew out of that, but still thinks paper is fabulous to shred, and cardboard - well that's just heaven! |

I use bleach and hot water, with a double rinse with vinegar, then I run another rinse with vinegar. They are always the last load I ever do on any particular day. Then my washer is left open (it's a front loader, with the sanitizing capabilities) to air dry. People washed diapers for years without any adverse effects:laugh: |
I have to use scotch tape and tape down the corners. I actually have to go through quite a process because he goes under this counter in our kitchen and lifts his leg, so I tape a large washable pad that goes up each side (wall/cabinet) otherwise he pees on the wall and it gets under the pad. then I tape down on each corner a regular potty pad on top where the majority of his pee goes. Hard to explain but regardless, it has to be taped down because otherwise he will kick his back legs around and the pad will scoot and get all messed up. If that happens then he thinks it's not his potty pad anymore, but something fun to carry off into the living room and play with. |
I use a doggie litter box with the pads. I put one pad in the box, then I take another and cut it into 4ths. I put one of the cut pieces and put it in the center. When Wally uses it, he pees on the small peice in the middle a couple of times and I can just throw that away and put in another. It makes them last alot longer. I doubt that will help with your little shredder problem :) just thought I'd give that idea for the saving of the pads. |
