A yorkie slave 2 Attachment(s) Wow! What a great Forum! I have been browsing Yorkie Talk for awhile before we got our baby and have found it to be filled with such useful information. Now I check it everyday for every little question that I have. Well here is my first post/question. We started to mix Nomi's food with another brand. She stopped eating it so we went back and gave her the breeder's brand of dog food and she refused to eat that too. Of course as a new yorkie mama, I became concerned after she missed 3 meals in a row, so I started to hand feed her. Well that worked too well. Now she'll only eat if we put it in our hand. We have been going through this for about 3 days now. Yesterday I tried to refuse to hand feed her and she didn't eat from 6 am to 5 pm. I got nervous because I didn't want her to get sick from not eating at all, so I once again gave in and have become her royal feeding slave. Is there anyway to break Nomi of this habit without damaging her health? |
Nomi is adorable, and what a great name! I have a neighbor with a 13 year old yorkie, she still hand feeds. hmmmm :p |
How old is she? I had the same problem and I had to "break" then of the habit I start out each meal feeding a little from my hand and then I let them finish up. I did this when he was about 4 months old. Before that I was paranoid of a low blood shugar incident. They say a yorkie will starve itself, but I was still scared. Good luck. |
 Sebastain is going to be on Aug. 13 and every morning it's part of my morning routine he whines and i bend down and hand him a piece of kibble sometimes he tosses it around before he eats it but it's cute Jasmine only likes it sometimes but sebastain is every morning lol humm wonder who is spoiled ;) |

If he gets hungry enough, he will eat. But of course, you have to be tough and that is soooo hard when they are so cute. |
13 years of hand feeding???? I don't think that I'd make it! Nomi is 8 weeks old. I don't want Nomi to get to use to being hand feed and at the same time, I don't want her to get sick from not eating. Who knew that Yorkies were so spoiled! |
I personally spoil way too much and admit to that, LOL. If Schatzie didn't eat on her own from her bowl, I know I would sit down at each of her meals and hand feed her if that is what it took. Of course this habit isn't recommended as again it has a "spoiled rotten warning" written all over it. LOL Your baby Nomi is a cutie and so glad you like Yorkie Talk too! :D |
Nomi is a doll! I know how you feel. My 9 month old Yorkie Riley is mostly fed people food by my mom. We know it isn't the healthiest, but there are never any problems so far when he is annually checked by the vet. Anyways, the only way he will eat dog food is if you hand feed it to him. He won't eat a thing of the ground. It has to be from your hand, mouth, spoon, or fork. LOL! He's such a goon! Well good luck! |
Hi...Congratulations on your puppy ! I didn't see Nutracal mentioned yet - that's always good to have when you have a new puppy - also - I saw it here in a thread once ...but also have done this when mine were little..... scatter some of the food on the floor near their dish - they LOVE eating this way - I sure don't know why but it really works.... |
that is true i scatter some of sebastains food and then hand him a few kibbles once i stand up he eats (or tosses frist) the kibble i have scatterd then when it's done he whines and we do it again lol its our way of bonding i guess yorkies are so cute and meant to be spoiled rotten :D I forgot to say earlier your new baby is a little doll she is so cute love that first pic of her |
You've got a beautiful pup there, and when you love your animal it's hard not to do everything you can to make them happy. Best wishes. |

you can find nurtical at most pet stores, sometimes it is in the ise with the ferret food, or cat food. I always keep a few tubes on hand just to keep them from having a episode of low blood sugar. As pups they get some about twice a day. Your baby is a sweetie, I miss them being so small, but then again, I love her at this age to! |
She looks mischievious ;) Simon did this as well. I would put some in my hand and them scatter them around him in little designs (that was more for me than him I'm sure) and he would put his nose down and scavenge them. That worked but I have to admit that sometimes I still give him some out of my hand ;) Hallie would eat off of anything ;) (that's why she's on a diet) |
