My baby went berserk last night:( Hello, My little Jeanie has been such a nice gentle easy going dog - until last night. The cat and her play all the time, but last night, the cat went near her when she was eating, and she went running after her barking terribly. And she doesn't usually even bark! Then she did it again. I put her in the kitchen with the doggy door up, and gave her a time out. Took her out, and then she did it one last time. So it was late, and so I put her to bed........ This AM seems much better.....but I am concerned. Anyone else ever had this happen with other furbabies in the home?? She is 8 months - today actually :) :) |
She might have been moody? I know a dog who is similar she is all playful then all of a sudden she is like okay forget don't come near me. Shes probably either 6 months or 8 monthes I forget if they got her in january or she was born in january. |
Your baby seems to be growing up. They change when they get older sometimes. She was protecting her food from the cat. Watch for food guarding. If that happens you have to work with her to stop it. Buddy started around 1yr. old. We worked past it. |
Just be careful that she does not become aggressive over her food. Maybe today when she is eating you should bend down and take her food away and see what she does. They should never go after someone just because they are eating. Let us know what happens! |
That's what my husband said - it was over the food. I think I will be taking it away a lot. Do you recommend that I bring the cat in when she is eating and sit with her, and make sure no barking etc?? it was kind of scary to watch my baby act so aggressively! |
Is it possible that she's going into heat. Some dogs get moody & possesive while in heat. |
No - not in this case. She was spayed over a month ago :) But she "SHOULD" be going into heat now. Could she be experiencing symptoms, even if she won't actually GO into heat?? I know women that are menopausal still get PMS? Is it like that for dogs maybe? |
We call that the terrier coming out. They can be all sweet one minute and a total terrier the next. That is one thing that we have learned having terriers (my husband and I both had a rat terrier as children), they are unpredictable. The good thing about Yorkies is that you can pick them up and remove them from the situation easily. |

Bud is big so when he charged at me I ran across the kitchen:D with the dish towel swinging at him. It was truly scary and I would not have picked him up for all the tea in China. |
