****Reminder**** Check your fences/backyards I like to put this reminder up yearly for those of you that have fenced in back yards and like me I just let my dogs go out to potty for about 5 minutes at a time by themselves. I actually dont venture into the backyard that often so I have to occasionally to check the fence and make sure their are no holes. Sure enough about a month back I called for Chloe to come back in the house and she didnt come, its because she found a small hole and went into the neighbors backyard and I dont know them very well so it scared the poop out of me. So we had to repair the fence. So anyways I just want to remind everyone to do fence checks :) :aimeeyork |
Great advice considering skunks will tunnel under fences and leave openings large enough for the small dogs to crawl thru. I keep patching holes all the time. We even called in the wild life federation and the guy brought us a trap to put out for a week. Never did get the skunk and he's still digging under the fence. Last night after we went to bed, Azrael started barking, so we looked outside and there was that skunk again. He's making such a mess in our flower beds too. Yes, everyone keep a visual on the fence line for sure. |

Good reminder...I have chicken wire all around the perimeter of my back yard, originally to keep Winston in...But now that he's grown too big to squeeze thru the chain link fence I leave it up to keep critters out, especially rabbits, for they invariably want to have their babies in my back yard, and I don't want my boy to get one. I do check the fence line often, it somehow became my job to pull weeds...and have never seen anything dig under it...But I can see where it could happen...So yes, it's a good idea to check for our babies sakes!!! |
Oh yes, my little houdini, Otis, got out from the back yard between the gate post and fence post and TOOK OFF! I chased him, he thought it was a game. I was on my lunch break from work, in big clunky shoes, running down the fence line (it's wooded with a creek and old railroad tracks) I got him into a neighbors yard, I jumped on him and missed. Finally, in tears, I just turned away from him and started walking quickly. He followed me! I got him back, both of us covered in mud and me wanting a beer at 11:30 in the morning. I chicken wired the heck out of my back fence when I got off work that day!!! He also has tried to get under my minibarn where a groundhog was living. Had to barricade that too. |
I also won't let him go into other people's backyard unless I've done a thorough investigation. |
