? about after spay care Tia is scheduled for her spay on the 19th. I was planning on taking the next day off of work so I could keep an eye on her. I'm a school teacher and found out that the day after her spay I need to go on an out-of-town daytrip field trip with my students. I can't really get out of it because I turned down an overnight field trip, promising that I would do this trip instead. I could get a supply teacher, but it would be better if I was there because we need teachers there who know the kids. Anyway....in your past experience, how were your puppies the day after their spay/neuter? Did you take the day to be with them? Did you go to work anyway? Should I reschedule (it will be the 2nd time I reschedule!) to when it will be convenient for me to take a day off? I'd like her to be spayed really soon....among other things, her breathe smells like @rse!! Can't wait for her baby teeth to be out and done with! Thanks |
Many times the females are right back in the swing of things the next day and takes all you can do to keep her at a lower activity level than normal! No stairs, no jumping on/off the furniture and keep the suture site dry. |
I know how you feel. I was a nervous wreck when I had Lullabelle spayed. We took her in, in the morning and picked her up at night. Then I stayed with her in the morning and she seemed fine just tired and lathargic so I went in to work. When I came home she was close to normal. I Think you can go on your field trip as long as the sugury goes as planned and nothing out of the norm happens.:animal-pa In case you don't know, Your baby isn't going to look good at all when you pick her up. Lullabelle looked just terrible and was very shakey but that is normal so try not to worry too much. I will keep you guys in my prayer but I am sure everthing will be just fine. :xfingers: |
I personally like to stay with them the day after. Emma just got spayed and she's still a nervous wreck, crying, wanting cuddled, and being really scared -- but my other girl Lula who got spayed was totally fine afterwards, like nothing had happened so it depends on the dog I think. |
it is tough to know how your pup will react to the anesthesia. Layla took a long time to get over it... she couldn't walk the next day because she was so out of it... so i had to help her to stand to go to the bathroom and help her eat and drink.. i highly suggest that you take the next day off in the event that your girl reacts the same... Layla needed constant care the next day and a few days after... |

Blynne, can I ask - what is a onesizee? I would worry about my girl scratching/ biting at her stitches when the time comes. The onesie look soooooo cute on Dolce! She is right at 5 lbs and the premie ones are perfect. I had a hard time finding premie apparently they sometimes call them "just born" and that's what I got. In fact, I just bought her one with little ruffles on the butt. I have to say I will be a little sad when she doesn't have to wear them any more. Prada, my 4 year old baby, is 8.5 lbs and she was able to fit into the new born ones. I refused to scar either of my babies for life by putting one of those "lamp shades" on their heads! |

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to see if my husband can stay with her, even if it's for a few hours. I guess we'll play it by ear the morning after her spay. I was planning on having her wear a onesie as well. As my husband would say....Tia is too much of a diva to be caught dead in a lampshade! (even if it has crystal glued to it....I saw some celebrity in a neckbrace decorated with Swarovski....can't remember who...) I was planning on keeping her crated if she does have to be alone. Although she does seem to mostly relax while we're both out of the house, her bed is on the second floor. I'd rather she was confined, so that she can relax without doing stairs. I'll ask the vet's opinion and keep checking on YTer responses :) |
Katies Spayed Hi I just had my 7 month old spayed in MAY on a friday I picked her up from the vet @ 3pm and she was very groggy took her home and let her just lay on a soft blanket folded over into 4s , She really slept most of the night I moved her to her wee wee pad and she just let loose then I moved her back to her blanket Saturday I made her some boiled chicken and Rice to eat to get the meds into her and then agin she slept most of the day/night , By Sunday she was mobile but too sore to play but my Monday she was back to her old self ! I didn't but anything on her no coller on onsie she never went for rthe incision @ all . good luck with your baby - Kathy 9Katies Mom:aimeeyork |
