Barking My Yorkie is 6 months old and i cannot control her barking. What can I do? I am ready for any suggestions. Please help!! |
I sure hope you get a lot of answers for this question. I've been asking myself the same question for months!! I have no answers tho. Sorry. Suz |
My Mattie is 7 months old and we use a squirt bottle when ever he does something that he's not suppose to do. Like barking. I tell him no barking and then give him a quick squirt. Just have it sitting handy. Because sometimes I'm looking for the bottle when I really need it. Maybe more than one is the answer. Good Luck, Shelley |
Ok...i will try it. The squirt bottle works for you? |

ok...thanks for the tip. I am going to try it tomorrow because i am going nuts. |
any hopes for her calming down in the near future? She is so wild that she never gets tired. |
I am interested in this topic as well..Bella was not a barker up until about a month ago; I guess she is more comfortable in her surroundings and plus I havent learned/mastered pack leader role. I heard about the squirt bottle technique but was concerned because I don't want her to develop a fear from water due to the bottle being squirted. I was using the soda can with coins in it...until she got used to it and started attacking my soda cans everytime she saw one. oh well...my boyfriend claims barking is her speaking to me. Thats wonderful unless it is at 6:00AM and she hears a fly in the room. |
I had the same thoughts about the squirt bottle because she is not fond of taking baths. So i didn't want her to be afraid of the water by squriting her. But she is out of control now so i am willing to give the squirt bottle a try. |
OK, I don't want you to think that I'm.....loosing it or anything. A few months ago we "babysat" one of the puppies that went to his new mommy in January. He has a sharp, nails on the chalkboard type of bark (just like his sister and mommy only louder). I remembered my aunt teaching Rocky's sister to "soft speak" ....a whisper bark. So whenever he would bark I would just look at him and say "soft speak" in a soft voice...It took about 2 days and he was barking in a whisper when I'd say "soft speak" The next day we worked on "quiet" and I had him down to grumbling when he went home. |

They are so smart. My Auntie trained her little one using cheerio's as treats. She taught her "loud speak" and "soft speak" just by repeating it and using a loud and soft voice, it was the cutest thing. |
wow that is amazing...kekek...i will have to try that... |
well i remember reading a thread about a metal pot and spoon...when they did something that they are not suppose to you would say NO in a really stern tone and hit the pot with the spoon...i hope i am explaining this right...someone correct me if i am wrong...keke... |
You can train your dog to bark on command, then interrupt her with a startling voice. When she is quiet for a moment give her a treat and keep extending the amount of time that she has to stay quiet for the treat. Then you can have both barking and "quiet" on command! That takes a while though... You might want to teach her to hold something in her mouth like a stuffed toy, during situations that cause her to bark. -O |
