Im a BAD Mommy! My little baby has to be groomed so bad, but I have not had time to take him lately. So Ive been trying to brush him and keep him mat free at least. Last night I was brushing him and his legs were really matted and he wouldnt let me near them to brush them out... so I grabbed the scissors and just started giving him a chop job haircut on his legs. When I finished, his mats were gone on his legs... but he looks HORRIBLE! And to make it worse... I cut his leg pretty bad :( I was sooo upset! He was bleeding!! I stopped the bleeding and checked it out and it didnt look THAT bad but it must have hurt him! He kept licking it and his brother laid with him the rest of the evening like he knew he was hurt and he was taking care of him :( I ended up having to put a little sweatshirt on him bc he wouldnt stop licking and I know thats not good for him to keep doing. This morning I put neosporin on it under the sweatshirt so he couldnt lick it. I feel bad leaving him in a sweatshirt all day though!! and nervous ... I hope he does not hurt himself while its on him. I usually leave nothing on them during the day! But this morning he was very very calm, wouldnt come down the stairs, wouldnt jump off the bed. I had to carry him and then he laid in his bed all morning... wouldnt wag his tail.. nothing!! I am sooooo upset! I cried last night when I realized what i did! I hurt my baby!!! Totally by accident!! But still....   |
bless your heart. I am sure he will be ok. Take him to a groomer and get him a summer cut. no one will ever know what happened and lucky for us, these little guys are pretty forgiving. His leg will be ok, just keep up with it, take him to the vet if you think it is bad. and when it heals..even before it heals...he will forget what happened and your house will be back to normal :) don't beat yourself up too bad :) |

They are so pathetic when they are hurt - He'll snap out of it - When Baxter had those twigs removed the other day - it took hours to get him back to normal - When we held him he'd whine (like a baby crying) - it was so sad - But he's fine - Back to the terror that he is :) |
Awwwww is he maybe playing this a lil??? He knows mommy will carry him around and he is suckin up the extra attention?? It was an accident and we all get busy....I am sure your a great mom and ACCIDENTS HAPPEN!!! |
Thanks! Awww thanks! Its just that I have 2 boys and Dexter (the one I cut) is my tiny baby. he's only 4.5lbs and hes a snuggler! hes a total baby on a good day! And to see him run away from me and hide in a corner to 'lick his wounds' made me sooooo sad! I keep telling myself it was just an accident but its not helping! I still feel like a jerk! :( |
I think when things like this happen, they mistake it as punishment. At least Roxy does. We have had to chop her mats off and right now her legs are nakkie and her body has a Three Stooges Moe cut, lol. When we first did it, she just moped with her head down and if I reached to pet her, she would cower like I was going to beat her, I felt really bad. But after a couple days, she perked up and was back to normal. She just looks like an upside down black bowl of hair with four skinny little legs carrying it around. Not to worry, your little guy will forget and forgive very soon. |
I had a similar thing happen to Prince when he got his microchip. He had gotten into trouble right before bed, and the next morning he wouldn't walk or anything. Just tucked his tail and sat looking pitiful and sheepish. Of course I was worried sick (new mom) and thought he was having an allergic reaction. Whenever I picked him up he would just cling to me and lie there. I left for work but felt so bad that I ended up taking him to the vet for the day. Well, 5 hours and $95 later, I found out that he just had a little attitude. That afternoon he was fine. I learned that day the Prince will play the role if I let him. I'm sure your lil guy will forgive you. Just give him some love :) |

Sorry you have to go through that. Your baby will snap out of it pretty soon. BTW, you're not a bad mommy! |
I hear ya You think you feel bad? I thought I was going to die when I accidently cut Theo last week. I was trimming his behind with the clippers and I cut him. It wasn't a bad cut, but just a really sensitive place. I cleaned it and put on some cream. He wouldn't move, play or eat for the whole day. He just kept licking it and rubbing his but on the floor. My boyfriend wouldn't stop teasing me. I felt so bad! |
life will continue and yorkies will forgive...they love their mommies and daddies too much not to shower us with love...hehe:animal36 |
Whenever my 2 little peanuts get me to the point of wanting to STRANGLE one of them (cause they band together you know) I put the one who is being obstinate in the exercise pen with some fresh water and toys and go about my day until I cool down. Then an hour or so later when I start to feel sorry for them being alone in the pen I take them out and play with them for a few then groom or brush their hair or teeth or what ever I had to do. It usually takes 2 to tango.....but I know with my 2 the more intense I am about doing something the more they think I am JUST PLAYING and make more of a fuss. I am sorry things got to the point of your little guy getting hurt (not that I haven't had to pull my hair out of my head to no avail with mine) but I always feel the thing that works best is to put them in a safe place while I cool off. Then we can continue form a negotiable stance. Hope this helps for the future.;) Tina |
Bet he doesn't move next time when you cut his hair...LOL Just Kidding! I know how horrible it feels to do that, I've done it, too! My husband told me he was fine and that my baby know I was a push over! He ended up being right, because the second I stopped treating him like a infant he started following me around wanting his attention! Actually demanding it is more like it! If I gave my real son as much attention as I do my fur babies, he'd tell me I was driving him nuts, so I know they get enough love and attention, though they might not think so! ;) |
