I am also thinking of getting Izzie (6 months) into some agility classes. She runs laps in the back yard like no other. :D She can clear the baby gate in the hallway with no problem... She just started jumped over her xpen too. (Our xpen is 4 feet tall!!!) I worry about her little joints too... I have to figure out where the nearest classes are now that I'm spending the summer in Southern California. |

http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fu...n=clubs.search Izzie sounds like a natural. Most instructors I've talked to suggest waiting until the dogs are a little older, closer to a year, before getting them into agility. The jumps and other exercises can be tough on the joints of an undeveloped pup. Talk to an instructor, though, and see what they say. Maybe there's a preliminary class that would go easy on the joints. Tunnels are low stress. I bought a cheap kids' tunnel at toys R us to teach that. Good luck! |
The instructor that bailey will be with starts them at 6 mo. but the class is ONLY dogs that are around that age, they dont do the jumps and the things that can be strenuous on the dogs, they learn the basics, they learn about the equipment and focusing and paying attention off the leash she says if you dont start the basics young it will be much harder. |
Thanks for the link! :) I found a few places that look like a good match. My aunt also suggested the toy tunnel at Toys R Us! :) She does agility with her catahoula. She suggested that I take Izzie to a class that just has toy dogs... I'm going to have to make some phone calls tomorrow for sure! |
Amanda--where are you in S. Calif?? Funny we were just talking about agility for Dayzee the teapot Yorkie. |
alaskayorkie, thanks for the link. I found a class less than a mile from my home. I am going to check on it. |
My parents live in Palmdale...but I'm staying in the Huntington Beach/Long Beach area for the summer. I come home on weekends for my "custody" visits with Izzie. :) |
