Help!!!!
 

I have had my yorkie puppy since she was 6 wks old & she is now 14 wks. old
We have tried almost everyting to potty train her. We've tried paper, outside, litterbox, potty pads & spray. She shreds the paper & pads, sleeps in the litter box & eats the litter, & licks the potty spray. Outside she just rolls in the dirt peeps a little, but saves most for when we think she is done & go back in after praising her. We also live in an apartment complex so there is not much grass. Please help me!!! What else can I try? :(

My dog that I got as a puppy wasn't potty trained until she was 9 months old.

My dog that I got as an adult (almost 3 years old) still isn't completely potty trained five months later.

Have patience, and stick with ONE THING. They won't learn if you change techniques too often.

I had the same problem with shredding the paper pad so I bought her the reusable pouch pads. There are prior threads on the topic. You should check them out. The good thing about the reusable ones are they can smell themselves on the pad so they are more likely to go back to the pad when they have to go to the bathroom.
I just use a little bleach in the washing machine along with some detergent. It worked for Reese! Good luck!

Pets mart carries them, thats where i bought mine.. they are called Pooch Pads. they also have them on their website... they are a bit pricey though.. i think 21.99 for 1 medium size.

Maggie is also 14 weeks old. I'm fortunate that I'm retired. For two months, I kept her on a very strict schedule; never let her run unsupervised; outside, always on a leash; kept playtime inside; daytime, pp break every hour; night, outside every 4 hours. She slept in her crate. I only gave her enough room to stand and turn around, and lay down. If they have more room, then they will use it as their bathroom. When she whimpered, I hit the floor. I would not give into her crying for no reason. That didn't take long for her to realize that I was not going to let her out. It was hell, and I won't lie about that. She is now housebroken and rings a bell on the back door when she needs to go outside. She would never use a wee pad. I have heard that you can set up a 3ft square, astro turf pad, in a frame, and put it on your patio. Looks like grass, but has the outside touch. I was beginning to feel like a drill sergeant with her training, but it paid off. Some days I was so tired I could cry. I just knew I had made a mistake. I'm too old for this. Then one day, everything fell into place. If I was still working, there would be no way I could have done this. Good Luck with your baby.

I went through the same thing with my baby, Nicky. I tried, wee wee pads (he thought they were his toys), litter box (he would either sleep in it, chew on the side of it,or when he did use it, he would stand halfway out/in and pee OUTSIDE the box), and outdoors (I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building so by the time I took him downstairs, he had forgotten why he went out in the first place, lol). I was at my wits end because he was still having accidents inside and I'm a grad student so I can't be here all the time to watch him 24/7. I had bought a large kennel for him to stay in when i'm gone: large enough for his food, toys, and bed to be on one side, and his pee area on the other. I wanted him to learn that THAT was where he was supposed to go potty and would eventually learn to go there on his own when i'm at home too (I leave the kennel door open so he can eat and go potty on his own). He recently learned that that is his area but he was still having accidents and tearing up the pee pads. I was SOO tired of having to clean out his cage everyday when I got home. Poop, pee, torn pee pads, and food would be everywhere!! :eek: So I bought one of those puppy pad holders and that was the best investment I EVER made! He no longer thinks the pad is a toy and now goes in the kennel on his own to potty when I'm at home. He is now a couple of weeks accident free!! I know I have a long way to go before I trust him to be alone in the house, but this is what I did after trying what seemed like EVERYTHING and so far, it has worked!! Good luck!! 14 weeks still young, you need to be patient and consistent. Stick to one schedule and good luck. Gucci is 11 months on friday and she still having some accidents. But I think is mostly cause Im the only one trying to train her, hubby is no help.

I have a hubby like that. I can hear Maggie ringing the bell on the back door, when I'm at the other end of the house. When I go through the den, (which is about 20 feet from the door that she is ringing the bell) I will ask him if he heard the bell. He will say NO everytime. I've decided to get him a hearing aid TODAY. At night he snores so loud, he can't even hear himself--so nighttime help with Maggie is out of the question.

LOL - Maggie's mom, I have three of those deaf people here. I think a newspaper works as well as a hearing aide, probably wouldn't make anyone move, but would be more fun for me. :D

We got a cage, it folds to be 2x2x2, opens to be 4x4, 2' high. I didn't allow the babies to be out unless someone was with them. They had food, water, bed, pee pee pad. They were to be brought outside immediately upon release. I kept a little rug under their food, sometimes they would pee on that. They are only $4 at Walmart, and now I leave an extra in the cage instead of pee pee pad. They don't have a lot of accidents, but these are very washable and look nicer )not chewable. For a time, Zowie would come out of the cage and pee by the back door, so I had to carry her outside. I am ready to make them a doorbell now.

Patience and persistance is the key

Laura, I totally lucked out on the bell. I found a training bell at Tractor's Supply in the dog section. I then attached it to a short lead leash. It hangs down from the door knob, 22 inches (I measured). Just the perfect height for her. Each time, I would ask her if she needed to PP. I would meet her at the door, as usual. I would tell her to ring the bell. She would just sit there looking at it. First few days I had to show her. I would only barely touch the bell. I didn't want her to think it was a new toy. She would jump up and hit the bell. I told her good girl, and out we went. Now she hits it all by herself. So proud of my baby. She is making all this hard work really worth it.
