Yorkie Yard We live in the country, but on a busy highway (log trucks). We have a large yard, but I am too afraid to let Emmy out unless she is on her leash. We want to put in some type of run/yard for Emmy to play in. Any suggestions? Type of fence? Height of fence? Size of yard/run? I want it large enough to put her a little bitty baby pool for wading. It will also have to big enough for a chair for me (I might can let her run around in it without a leash, but definitely not without my supervision!) |
If you don't want to fence the yard you could use an x-pen and get it big enough for a pool for her. They make they with swinging doors so you could walk in and out of too. |

Xpens works great if you don't have a fenced-in yard. |
X-pens are also good if you don't want to spend the money. ;) |
I agree with everyone on the x-pen suggestion. |
2 Attachment(s) I put 2 ex pens togther and it is great. We are out there all the time and they love it. |
X-pens Evidently I am not very knowledgeable about pens/fences. I have never heard of an X-Pen. It looks perfect (the two together) for what I want--enough room for emmy to run, me a chair, and a small kiddy pool for the summer heat. Where do I purchase and how much are they? Also, what holds them up--stakes in the ground or what? Thanks for all your quick responses! I have gathered a wealth of knowledge from this site and from all of you wonderful yorkie talkers!:) |
I got my ex-pen from petsmart and it was around 60.00, I think. I got a tall one because I was worried about jumping. I've seen them cheaper online, but you have to factor in shipping, cause they are quite heavy!! I use mine in the potty pad room to make sure they don't use any other part of the room so I don't know about outside, I'm thinking you could stake them. |

petsmart pens I went online and looked at the exercise pens available. The pens come in several heights, from 24 inches tall to 48 inches. Any recommendations? |
I have the 24 inch as none of mine are jumpers and Iam always out with them. Also I can step over the 24 inch ones so I can go tend to the garden. My husband didn;t use stakes just positioned it so it doesn't fall over. |
1 Attachment(s) They are also very portable. I have two for rving trips and use 1 in the house when I want to contain them. Also we have a little tiny doggy door that we got at Petsmart that goes out onto our back covered cement porch with an iron decorative fenced area. We got the fencing at Lowe's and it is tight enough to keep my guys in & safe. My back walls are french doors so I can see them at all times. I'll try to attach a photo of the iron garden fence. |
