Mad.. Am I wrong? :( I made an appointment with the groomer to get Maximus ear hair plucked and his nails trimmed..plus remove some hair from his booty and paws(this new one was supposed to be great..she works at the vet's office because after last time Maximus won't let me touch his ears)..so I made this appointment a week ago because his nails are starting to scratch again and the last groomer didn't trim the hair on the bottom of his paws and he is sliding everywhere..and this was the earliest they had..cancellation..(she only works 3 days a week only early to mid-day)..so since I am at work they told me to bring Maximus in his crate in the morning and pick him up at night..no can do..(Maximus is not crate trained and he will probably freak out :(..I know I know...bad mommy..he will go in there and sleep but i have never actually locked him in there for long periods of time..I have a baby gate and he is pretty good with potty training)..plus he had a bad grooming experience last time, and he will end up being crated up for a few hours in a place he doesn't know and locked in a room with other howling dogs..maybe I'm just paranoid....so my bf makes arrangements so he can drop him off and watch..they said no it will distract the dog..so we say okay because he's at the vets technically right??...well last night they call me at 6 to tell me that we have a 12pm appointment (today) and we will have to leave Maximus there till 5:30 because they are having a staff meeting and shutting down the office till 5-5:30 pm...FIRST off my appointment was at 10..which they swear it isn't..but why would I write that down in my planner..I had no idea of the 10,12 and 2 schedule they had before yesterday?? ..when I asked if they take them out to pee..they told me no..they will put a wee wee pad in there and his food and water..and I refuse to have Maximus stay there for 5-6 hours while they have a meeting..so I immediately cancelled and told them that this was unacceptable...they wanted to give me an appointment in 3 weeks to replace this one...so now the search for a new groomer is on yet again...sorry had to vent..the girl told me I was overreacting and he's just a dog...maybe I am overreacting..but it's MY dog and I can't bear for him to be miserable for no reason!!!! |
First of all the term "Just a dog" irritates the hell out of me!! No he's not "just a dog'!! He's the love of your life!! You're better off not taking them there - you would have felt too uncomfortable, and that's not worth it! When you say that they wouldn't let your bf stay - couldn't he wait in the waiting room or someplace while they groomed him so that poor Maximus wouldn't be stuck there fdr a ridiculous 5 hours?! I don't blame you - I'd be mad too!!! |
I agree...I wouldn't take him there either. Anyone who says the words, "What, it's JUST a dog.", will never set a hand on my puppy. I would try to find someone who owns yorkies or small dogs of some kind. They will be more understanding to the needs of your dog and probably more gentle. :( |
Lol! Just a dog! Quote:
I was typing at the same time as you...great minds think alike! |
Ditto for me! They have such seperation anxiety and that is just too long! Plus, "just a dog" is very irritating! Mine would hold her potty until she burst, because she goes outside to do her business. Not good! I'm glad you listened to your inner voice and did the right thing! Pat |

I guess so!!! LOL |
You are not wrong. They sound awful saying you are overreacting and he is just a dog. I would never go back to them for anything. My groomer lets me stay and watch and never says anything to me about distracting the dog. Of course I figured that out myself and don't let him see me most of the time. I just take a peek now and then to ease my mind. If keeping your baby in a crate without PP breaks upsets you or him, then just don't do it, unless it is for an operation or something. Grooming is not reason enough for his discomfort or yours. I went through 2 other groomers before I found one that does the grooming out in the open for everyone to see and where I can watch. I could never understand why the other groomers had to keep my baby for several hours and why I couldn't watch. If seeing you will distract him, then they should tell you to keep out of sight. What do they have to hide that the grooming has to be done in a forbidden area. The one time my vet's groomer did the grooming, my pup got an eye infection. That has never happened with any other groomer. That was the first and last time he went there. As far as the scheduling, there's not much you can do about that I guess. They are running a business and can't arrange their meetings around customers. You are NEVER wrong when it comes to worrying about your baby's comfort. NEVER. And if anyone accuses you of over reacting or 'he's just a dog', I would never go back and I would complain to the boss about that employee's insensitivity. |
That's really obnoxious of those people. Stewie isn't crate trained either and I dont see why Max has to spend 7 or so hours in a crate just to get groomed. Ugh. |
As mentioned above and i so much agree, I hate the phrase "it's just a dog"....Makes me go insane when I hear those words! and  Well this DOG is YOUR Dog and you need to find a place you BOTH are comfy with.... |

Correct me if Im wrong BUT,,, JUST DOGS,,, pay her wages and everyone in her office??!! SO She should be THANKFUl for people who care and have concern for their Dogs!! OR SHE WOULDN'T HAVE A JOB!! right?! I think I would have to call and talk to HER superior..about her remark/ attitude! Thats unexceptable.. If I said something like that at work to one of our customers... that would be UGLY...for me! |

the girl told me I was overreacting and he's just a dog...maybe I am overreacting..but it's MY dog and I can't bear for him to be miserable for no reason!!!! If someone ever used those words to me, I would make an about-face and walk out. |

WOW......... I really can not belief the way some groomers are. As a groomer myself, I am disgusted by this. The longest the we will keep a dog in our grooming salon is 3 hours unless you have made arrangements for the dog to stay longer due to work or something. "Just a dog"?? I probably would have knocked the little B**** out to be honest. You should always be allowed to watch your dog. IF there isn't a spot that you can stand where the dog wont see you then find a different groomer. We have all glass windows around our salon so you can see the dog and there are spots that you can stand to watch that the dog wont notice you. Find a different groomer if you can. Too bad I live so far away. I would come groom your baby for you. :) |
