Is it just me? HI friends! I am a freakin worrier!! I am so afraid to leave her in her crate at night or caged up during the day when I leave because I'm afraid she will stress herself out...won't eat, or drink and she'll get sick. AM I NUTS? These last few days I have caught myself wondering if I was cut out to be a fur mama! NOT because of her but because of ME!! This has been so hard on me why can't I just leave her out with me and let her sleep at night with me? I know....she'll pee everywhere:( Just please tell me I'm worrying too much and she's a dog she will eat if she's hungry. Is that true? Oh yeah today I left her for the first time for an hour and she crawled up the side of the baby gate and got out! She's just over a pound! One more thing is it okay to have a kitten collar on her with a bell for just around the house thanks for letting me vent! Heather |
She'll be fine in the crate :) She's safe in there :) How old is she? If you don't want to keep her in the crate, then maybe you can get her an x-pen and put the pad on one side of the pen, and her food, water, and bed on the other side. That way you don't feel like she's being confined. That is if you want her to learn to go potty on pee pads. Be careful with the collar...If she's a climber, the collar can get stuck on the baby gate. I read a story on here one time that the dog had accidentally hung himself like that.. As far as food goes, you need to make sure she's eating enough. Do you free feed her or do you have scheduled feedings? You're doing a great job! Don't worry sooo much :) |

From everything I've read, you're doing her a favor leaving her in the crate, especially while housetraining. |
Ohhhh...your baby is adorable. Please don't give up on her, she'll be fine crated when you're not with her, I agree "No Collars", especially when alone. She should feel secure in her kennel or crate, and when she's trained, it will be so worth it. Winston has free run of the house now, and sleeps with us in bed at night. But we used a crate at first, he actually loved it in there, safe, secure, and you don't have to worry. Wish you well and courage to pursue, what a beautiful little girl you have...Take care of her, she needs you. |
She is a super cutie :daisy: How old is she and how long have you had her. |
I think she is safer in her crate then roaming free in the house. In the house she is able to get into all sorts of trouble. |
She's beautiful! Little Lexi is just beautiful! I know what you mean. At first, I wore myself out worrying about everything!! I have had my baby Gizmo for 8 days now. I keep him in a playpen when I can't hold him or watch him closely. I also use a tether method to keep him close to me when I have to fold laundry, etc. So far, no problems having him eat. He does cry a bit from time to time when I leave him alone in his playpen, but usually it's like a baby who is overly stimulated (I think at least). From what I've been told, sleep is almost as important as food, so I let him fuss sometimes for a minute and then he settles down and goes to sleep. So far, it works great. If he keeps crying (or that pitiful whining!) for more than a couple of minutes, I try distracting him with a toy or chewy bone or toy. If that doesn't work, I just resign myself to letting him stay with me longer and put off the chores. Oh well! :D He is staying comfortably in the playpen for longer and longer periods of time, so I think I'm on the right track. Luckily, I have a couple of months to spend with him before I go back to work in the fall. I'm a teacher. He really does settle down after crying for a minute or so about 85% of the time. By the way, are you anywhere close to Waco? I would really like to find a yorkie playmate for Gizmo! |
She is so beautifu, and is normal to worry so much my girl is one year old and I still worry about her, and don't know if it ever going away a list for me , Phoebe had a explay pen, with food, water, safe toys, bed , and at night she sleept in her wire crate on top of my treasure chest next to my side of the bed, now that she is 100% potty train she sleep with us and have the run of the house, but I always keep the eye on her just to ck what she is doing but is easy when I'm at home because she is my shadow:D she is alone for few hrs on some sundays in the kitchen with a baby gate and the tv on music and all the stuff that she needs too, other than that she is everywhere we go with us:p |

oh I hope I didn't imply that I want to give her up!!! NO NO I'm just a first time puppy owner who is so worried I'm gonna mess up!! I love her to pieces and don't want to see her upset, or worse sick. ARE YOU SURE IF I "SPACE" TRAIN HER SHE WON'T MAKE HERSELF SICK CRYING? She is 12 weeks and I've had her for four days. Thank you! |

Others might be able to tell you how long to expect the whining to continue. |

She won't whine long, and no it won't make her sick. Give her a comfortable place to sleep, a few SAFE toys, food & water. She and you will do just fine...it won't be long and you'll be able to trust her to run around and sleep with you, she'll be a happier puppy with your guidance. |
