carsick Maggie We took a 9 hour trip yesterday from Oklahoma to Houston....Maggie became agitated and vomited 3 times........the vet I called said there was not anything to give for this.....any suggestions? I don't look forward to traveling in the motor home with Max and Maggie...if she is going to throw up every day :eek: Max and Maggie's Mom |
Do a search on here for other threads addressing this. I think they recommended a couple of herbs that work as well as covering a crate so they can't see the movement. I think the herb was ginger because they also said you can feed them ginger snaps. |
Oh poor baby! Have you tried short little trips to get Maggie more familiar with the "motion" in a vehicle? Maybe this would help? Hmmm, I could have sworn there was something that vet's give for this...I wish I could remember the name of what it is. Sorry I am no help at all towards this right now??? Hope it get's better for Maggie!! |
Gracie threw up every time we took her in the car but she has grown out of it and has travelled accross the country a few times now and done very well. Our vet told us to give her 1/2 of a travel sickness pill. She threw up anyway... Maybe it just takes time and lots of car rides. |

A long time ago we had a dog that vomited every time he was put in the car. (What was amusing is that he used to lay in the seat on a pillow between the driver and front seat passenger. Whenever he felt the nausea coming on, he'd turn toward the driver and puke down his leg.... :p Guess you had to be there...and not be the driver). Anyway, we asked our then vet about this, and he said the puppies are like children. To avoid the car sickness/motion sickness, one must never ever let them look out the side windows of the care (makes them very aware of the scenery woshing by). He said we should hold the dog upright and help him to look out the windshield of the car. Either this worked or ol' Percy outgrew the need to heave. Give it a try. |
My dad used to say "get a static strap" it works for kids and dogs, you get them at an auto parts store, they take the static out of a moving car,I grew up with one it works,now for me maybe it was a mind trick telling me I wouldnt sick anymore, but it worked on the puppies also and we didnt tell then we put it on, it hangs under the car and kinda runs on the road discharging the static which makes them sick, its worth the $10.00 to see if it works for your baby as well as it did for mine |

Thanks everyone I appreciate all the advice......I have found that putting Maggie on the seat without pillows....so that she can not look out the windows has reduced the nausea......I am also going to get some chicken soup Benadryl :p Max and Maggie's Mom |
