At what age do personalities come out? As the title says, what age does a puppy's personality come out? 4 weeks? 5 weeks? |
I think they come out shortly after birth.:) When we went to pick out our first Yorkie, the litter was 2 days old. Scruffy slept quietly in my mom's hand. When I held him, the little booger growled! It set the stage for a tumultuous 11.5-year relationship ... Seriously, they usually do have personality emerging early on. But they can also change. For example, Scruffy was very loving and shadowy during his first year. After that, not so much. Ozzie, on the other hand, is a lover man. He's my velcro baby and has been since we got him at 11 weeks. |
Thanks for answering! Why did Scruffy's personality change if you don't mind me asking? |
I think a good breeder can start picking up on the nuances of their personalities from the first couple of weeks, and of course, just increasingly so after that. By eight weeks, the breeder should be able to give you a good idea of whether the pup will be active, loving, dominent....etc. But of course, it's true that they can change later on as they grow and mature, and also based on their experiences! |

Wobie's personality started showing at 3 1/2 weeks when I first visited him. When I picked him up at 8 weeks, I could tell that I had a mommy's boy on my hands. He still is that way, but he's only 11 weeks, so I guess he could still change with age. |
