Those with tiny yorkies Do you take them to get groomed? Gemma is so tangled at the skin, that I cannot get them out....I think I have to resort to shaving her :( But I just can't take her to a groomer and drop her tiny butt off!! She is just 2 lbs and I think she will be scared! I wish I had the skill to do this myself.... I take the other two to this groomer, but I don't feel comfortable taking her....Do you guys take your tinies? |
My smallest is 3 lbs.; I have no problem taking him but, I do know the owner and she has a 2.5 -3 lb yorkie herself, so I don't ever worry. Have you ever watched them groom? I'm sure she will be find, I would just ask them to call you as soon as she is done so that you can pick her up right away. |
I take karleigh, she is not as small , she is 4.5 witch is still small, but they do a wonderful job with her,she is going sat morning at 7am:) and they call me as soon as she is done witch i love:) usually about 2 hrs tops. good luck with your little one im sure she will do fine. |
Lily is barely 2 lbs and is a special needs puppy because of her open fontanel. I take her to the groomer about once a month. I wouldn't do this if I didn't completely trust my groomer and know how careful they are with her. If you are reluctant to leave her at the groomers, then ask if you can stay and watch. My groomer doesn't mind me staying at all which I have done before. They do a much better job of getting out the tangles next to her skin and cutting her nails than I could ever do. |
I am very curious about all the responses here. I have a 3.2lb female I take to the groomer and she is there 2 hrs max and they are great with her. BUT I also have a 1.2 lbs male that I am scared to take. Any suggestions? |
If you KNOW and TRUST your groomer then I don't see a problem with it. BUT my little girl 2.11 ounces was shaking like a leaf when I picked her up from a groomer (no I didn't know the groomer, I just picked it out of the phone book). Everytime I use to bring out the comb she would shake like CRAZY, but she doesn't do it as bad anymore. I don't know what those people did to her, ever since then I started grooming myself. As a matter of fact I just got done grooming my babies today :D . Just ask the groomer if you could sit and wait, so you can see whats going on and see if they know how to groom a tiny. |
I take Cali who is 5 lbs once in awhile for a good clean up. Pixie who is 3 lbs is to afraid and never been to the groomers at 1 1/2 years old. I would be afraid to take her since she is tiny and very nervous away from me. Fortunatley she has a thin silky coat that is a dream to take care of. |
I took Chloe (1lb 14oz) a couple weeks ago because she had matts REALLY close to the skin (she has more now :thumbdown). I STAYED there the whole time and stood RIGHT next to the groomer. Watched her like a hawk. She said she had never had one as small as Chloe. She was too rough for my liking. I had to stop the groomer several times. Her coat was beautiful after and I didn't know her hair was as long as it actually is, but I will NEVER go back there and probably won't go to any other groomer. BAD experience for Mommy. Chloe's scared little eyes staring at me. The lady was just too rough. It was 45 minutes of pure and utter hell for me. |
Do you guys think a mobile groomer would be better for her? I've used one once, and though I wasnt too happy about the job done, I think it will be easier on Gemma? I would call around though, because the one that came had no idea how to groom a yorkie  |
I've only tried a mobile groomer once and had horrible results. She butchered my poor Tucker so bad that I had to take him to the vet to get stitches afterward. She also took the entire first layer of skin off of his little backside. I had heard great things about her but made the mistake of letting her groom him without my supervision. My lesson learned was never use a groomer for the first time without watching them. She is the reason why I still drive 45 minutes to take my boys to Pet Paradise (the best groomers ever  ) I'm sure that she is not representative of all mobile groomers and hopefully others on here have had good experiences. I would definately keep an eye on her for the first time though, good references are not enough. BTW: Those in the Nashville area, stay away from Bark & Paw, Grrrr :thumbdown |
I haven't taken Jake to a groomer yet because I'm scared to death after reading someof the horror stories here. I have two recommendations....one from a friend at work and another from my SIL. I need to take him, and I keep putting it off, but I think I will take him to the one my SIL recommended because he said she grooms lots of yorkies and has groomed his own dog (lab) and was excellent. His dog even gets excited about going. I think you have to find groomers who others have had experience with so you know for sure. |
I took my little one, 3 lbs 2 oz to the groomer. She was shaking when I got her but just because she got her nails done for the first time. I am trying to get her use to getting her paws touched. I was very lucky with my groomer. I work at a daycare and there was a lady who was a groomer. She has such a calm personality, so I knew I could trust her with my baby. I took Gigi to work with me and she takes her to work with her!! |
I had to cut off Lolas coat shortly after I got her because it was too matted close to the skin. I took my time and did it little by little. After it started growing back I was just very diligent with making sure I was brushing down deep enough. Now she gets her daily brush, I put her hair up and she gets a bath every couple of days. |
I also tryed the mobil groomer 1 time and had a not so good time:( it took forever so i went out to see what was going on in there and she poked her head out and said, you are just making it worse for your dog everytime im interupted, now i have to calm hm down again, please wait until im finished to see the results. and the results were not pretty i was peeded.paid her and that was the end of that for me:mad: |
I had the same problem with Nathan when i got him..his baby hair was really matted and I thought I was doing a good job!!! But I live close to my breeder and I took him to her and she shaved him for me and clipped his nails etc and cleaned him up..now his hair is growing back in nicely and I make sure I comb and brush him everyday and he gets a bath every week and a half or so depending on how dirty he gets from playing...I too am scared to go to a groomer with my 2lb 9 oz baby boy ( he is 7 months) so I think I am just going to try to groom him my self and with my breeders help!! :) I can get him like I want!!! :) |
