She's here!! Hey guys just wanted to share that I brought our new little girl home last night! Many of you encouraged me after losing my pup Lexi a few weeks ago. This little girl is so adorable... and loves to give sweet puppy kisses!:D I will post some pics soon! In the meen time can you all share with me what's normal in bringing home a new puppy at 11 1/2 weeks 1.5 lbs? I think she's kind of a finicky eater not sure if it's because she's so small, or adjusting, or that she just does not eat much. I'm keeping her in her own little area with food and water and blankets for most of the time. I take her out every couple of hours to play with her and love on her. Any advice is greatly appreciated! ~Heather |
Congrats. Enjoy every second with her! |
I just got Roo about a month ago, she was 3 months- at our first vet check up she was 1.12 lbs and was not eating much at all! We had some concerns that she might have bacteria or worms in her tummy so the vet put her on some medication and she's perked right up and started eating a little better (though she's still pretty picky)! Yesterday we went back to the vet and she's 1.5 pounds! We've tried her on a bunch of different wet foods and her favorite so far was Eukanuba puppy food- it's good because it's really really soft. She's also on Royal Canin dry puppy food part of the time and she seems to like that okay. The only treat I've found that she likes so far are yogurt drops (which have sugar in them- which if I had seen in the first place probably would not have gotten!!)- but she only gets them sparingly as they make her a little hyper- she won't eat anything hard and even the little moist treats she doesn't eat so she's a hard one! I would definitely take a stool sample in to the vet and get her checked out for worms because I think a lot of puppies get them- they're easy to spread so if one had them or the mommy had them...all the puppies will have them! Good luck with your new pup and congrats! =) |
Congrats......can't wait to see her, what is her name? |
"Congratulations" on getting your new little sweetheart. :) :aimeeyork My Rudy was 4.5 lbs when I brought him home at 8 weeks.;) Sorry, I can't help with questions on a tiny one like yours. Aren't puppy/doggie kisses the best. :wink3: |
aww, congratulations!! Have you decided on a name? |
thank you! No name yet... waiting to let her tell me what her name is! oh and puppy kisses are the best! She is sooo sooo sweet! |
Cali was 1 lb when I brought her home and an impossible eater. I ended up giving her cesars which isn't good but she would eat it and some chicken. She outgrew her finicky eating after several months and now will eat hard and wet of most of the premium brands. Just keep an eye on her for hypoglycemia symptoms and get her vetchecked . Can't wait to see pictures! Congratulations!! |
