Should I feel guilty about this?
 

My boss has an 8 month old JRT puppy. And while he is the cutest dog, he is also 4 handful (house training & energy wise). I take my little yorkie with me to work, and I'm not sure if the two are just very playful, or if they are aggressive. They are constantly biting each other, and barking at each other. My boss claims his puppy is the submissive one, because he rolls on his back. BUT, he keeps biting and showing his teeth when he lays on his back and jumps back up in a heart beat to start jumping on my little one again. And once he stops, mine will just walk away. Plus, he will take whatever she has, and most of the time he has 2 bones in his mouth so she can't get any. By no means am I saying mine is innocent, she is a little instigator.

Besides that, having the two running around, and watching the puppy at all time to keep him from going potty inside the office, is distracting me from my job.

Anyway, my boss is out of town a lot and normally he just expects me to take care of the dog. This time I put my foot down - he's gone for 2 weeks and I told him a few days here and there is fine, but 2 weeks... So I suggested a doggy day care kennel. Now the JRT pup is at the kennel, and I'm feeling a little guilty about that, since I am around and he is paying big bucks for the kennel. Should I? I just really need some space from this little crazy dog.

Is this a family owned business? I just can't imagine a boss anywhere expecting an employee to watch their personal pet in an office setting. Bizarre. Where you suppose to watch the dog at night as well?

Good thing you put your foot down before it came to be expected that you would always watch his pet when he's out of town. How very unprofessional.

I'm sure the puppy is doing great! No need to worry or feel guilty. You really did need to stand up for yourself before it was too late, so I'm glad you took care of things.

Puppy play can seem rough at times, with plenty of growling and biting. I woudn't be worried unless their body language became very stiff. I think I read somewhere once that when a dog rolls onto its back to play is NOT a sign of submission, but rather a sign of dominance (although a very friendly form of dominance) because that dog is encouraging the more submissive one to come over and play.

My brother's two JRTs somehow let Maxwell (at 5 months) be the boss. One day I saw the two JRTs tear apart a ground hog that was bigger than they were and gave them a fight. I always keep a very close eye, and we never let them be alone together. JRTs usually like to dominate.

i always thought JRT's were adorable, but my boss has one and I loathe it. It's horrible around the kids, nips and growls at them and it just does not listen to anyone. Another friend has one that listens but has the same attitude problem. I've seen more sweet pits than i have JRT's.

This is not a family owned business, although it sometimes feels like it :) I work in his home though with two other people. I guess I feel mostly guilty because my yorkie is coming with me to work. So now I do have mine at work/his house and we put his JRT in a kennel...

I just had to take a stand this time, because usually he'll just leave and expects me to either find someone to take care of it or I have to myself. And I think it's just because he forgets and it's easy for him to leave it up to me. But every time I've put the dog with someone else, they tell me afterwards they don't want to keep him... So now I'm the only one... and I don't want to have him either :rolleyes:

As far as the temperament, I do not trust him alone with my yorkie. Mine is pretty bold and will 'fight back'. She just doesn't have the strength to overpower him when need be. And I'm sure this is just rough play, as they aren't 'stiff', but the whole jumping on top of her, biting until my yorkie just snaps and gives him the 'crazy yorkie growl/bark' (while he keeps going), and taking every treat she gets (so he has 2 or 3, and she has none), drives me nuts! I guess I'm not a 2 dog person or a JRT person :D
