Puppy training spray
 

Has anyone heard anything about or tried out that puppy pee training spray.. your suppose to spray it where you want your puppy to pee/poop and they are suppose to recognize it and do it there? I saw it at petsmart... does this actually work?
cause this might be my answer to my little baby!

Hi Dena! I actually have used the training drops made by Four Paws and they worked like a charm! I used them with Tino when he was a puppy and again a few months ago when I brought Bunny home. Every time I put a fresh pad down I just sprinkled an eyedropper of the training drops in the center of the pad and that made it so they knew where to go. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I just got my baby, he is 4.5 months old... the breeder said she had him puppy pad trained, but now, he totally doesn't understand.
I am trying to train him outside though.. and pads during the day if he has to go... he holds it all throughout the night, and i take him out right as soon as i wake up, and he goes like clockwork.. but during the day, he is a peeeeeing machine!
do you think the drops would work outside???
i have also tried to get him used to going on my balcony, cause at night, i dont want to get dressed and stuff, so if i have to, i take him out on my balcony... in the mornings as well.

I use the spray on my puppy pads. It does help considerably!

Another trick I've read about is wiping up a mistake on the floor with a puppy pad so that the pad has the scent.

When we first got Carter, he wouldn't pee outside. We took him into our neighbor's yard to smell their dog's urination. He no longer had a problem after that. I have to credit my 15 yo daughter for thinking of that!

Dena- Mine only go on the pads, so I can't say from my own personal experience that the drops work, but I read the bottle and it says that they are for indoor and outdoor use. I think when you are using the drops for outdoor training you just need to make sure you take him to the same spot everytime you take him out...like a specific plant or a rock or something and then put the drops on that so he is attracted to go potty there. As far as inside... after I put the drops on the pad, I would put Tino/Bunny on it and say go potty... sometimes they would, sometimes they wouldnt, but it definitely got their attention bc they would start sniffing the spot like crazy. And everytime I would catch them I would give tons and tons of praise and then give a little BilJac treat. With the help of the drops they were both trained within days! Are you confining your puppy to a space while you arent home.... if you are giving him run of the house, it may just be too big of an area for him until he is potty trained. BTW.... the drops are kinda stinky, but if you confine him to a smaller area with his pad at the opposite end from him food, you will only have to use them for a few days. :D

well, here comes my other problem.. I have been confining him to my kitchen, which i think is too big to train.. so one of the yorkie talk members, so graciously (Thanks Brooke!) gave me her old play pen... i put my little Tucker/Wookie (hes got two names, can't decide :D ) in the pen, he jumped out right away.. he like hurled himself out, he would literally flip out of the pen, and it looked really painfull.. so now im trying to figure out a way to close the top of the pen or extend the sides somehow, because the pen has mesh all around the sides.

Dena i have used those drops outside before when I trained my shepherd to go in one spot only. They worked like a charm. We sprinkled the drops in the area we wanted him to potty in, then for about 2 weeks straight we would take him to his spot. After 2 weeks all i had to do was open the door and say go potty and he would go right to his spot. Good luck

......I stood in Pet Smart for over 20 minutes staring at that same thing this past weekend..........I could not make up my mind to try it or not.....

Lil Bit does "pretty good"...some days she is 100% on the pee-pad...then some days she just strolls across the floor and stops... and squats!!!

I remember using it years ago with another dog and it worked well....but was afraid Lil Bit was just too lazy!!!!!

Mine isn't here yet, so I don't know how I'm going to train her. The told me she is trained to go outside, but one never knows. I love the name Wookie. It's adorable.

I made a BIG mistake with that spray. I bought it, thinking it was the training spray you use to STOP your baby from doing something wrong. Well, good thing I sprayed it on the baseboard in the kitchen. That was the worse smell in the world. It was like I had a chemical toilet in the kitchen. Scrubbed it all off, before Maggie would get a whiff of it. Can you imagine if I had sprayed it on the carpet. Oh my gosh, Maggie would have had a field day on how many places she could have PP'd. I have trained her for outside, so if she would have gotten a smell of it, it would have set the training back years, and she's only 14 weeks old.

UGH!!!! I couldnt imagine having that smell in my carpet!!! I had a hard enough time with it for the few days that I used it and it was just a few drops on one pad! I had to leave all of my windows open! Luckily it works pretty quickly so you don't have to use it for long!

i went to two diff pets mart yesterday, and they didnt have those drops... but i did buy the spray... the one i got smells bad... but you can barely smell it.. and it didn't really work.. little Wookie didn't even try to smell it.. where did you get those drops????

The directions on that puppy training spray says to use a "little", well, they mean it too. Dumb me thought if I just sprayed it all over the pee pad, my Bentley would do his business there. That stuff drove him crazy. He literally shredded that pee pad. I don't even use the spray anymore. We've had him for almost 4 weeks, and I think consistency is the key. And he almost always lets us know if he's "done it" on the newspaper in his crate. It's like he doesn't quit whining til the paper is removed. If he has messed his paper up, and we don't get it promptly, he starts moving it himself!! He is so funny. Love him to death.
