Grooming/Coat questions.
 
How often do you all take your Yorkies to the groomers? I took mine a couple days after I got her and she look gorgeous. She looks great right after I brush her but her coat is so oily. (I gave her a bath myself) maybe I am not using the right shampoo for her coat. Anyways. It is about a month so I have an appointment for Thursday.

i take mine every 1 - 1.5 months. i bath them every 1-2 weeks depending on how much dirty they are.

okay sounds about right with what the groomer told me. I think I need suggestions on a shampoo then..

I use biogroom, and I like it. I know its not the best, but its available at Petco so its convenient. I want to try Cranberry Fields next time.

I've only taken Sukoshi to the groomers twice, and I've had her for 5 months now. I give her weekly baths and brush her teeth, so I just take her when I think she's "due" for a trim, nail clipping, deep conditioning, etc. When she gets older (she's 9 months old today), I plan on taking her every month or so.

Mine have never been to the groomers. I do all of the bathing and grooming myself.

Alright!!! I gave her a bath and she did well. I sprayed her with conditioner and I will be brusing her soon with a slicker? brush. She handled the bath very well. I am not impressed with the shampoo. It was something I used on my pom but she is not a shiny. ANY shampoo, conditioner suggestions??

well, i suggest that you should use pin brush as i attached instead of slicker one if u'd like to have long hair to floor yorkie. it's very important to use the right one.

Thanks I will try that. i did see a spot where it looks like it broke off?? or cut before I got her.

I have the same Chris Christensen brush that you have pictured in that thumbnail, and I love it. Before I bought that one, I was using a "normal" pin brush from Petco that had those little rubber balls on the tip of each pin, which I thought would hurt Sukoshi less, but then I learned those little balls are actually bad because they break the hair off; whereas the Chris Christensen brush doesn't have those balls and the hair goes right through - nothing to get caught on. I can really tell a difference when I brush Sukoshi with it. It wasn't cheap (for a brush), but it's worth the extra expense if you want your baby to have longer hair.

i'll change to use christensen 27mm GOLD SERIES PIN BRUSH soon. i've heard that this one is perfect to use with yorkie. anyone uses this one now?

well, i think this problem can be solved by using the right brush and spray. you might do hot oil when you give her a bath. i use biogroom' vita oil for hot oil.

I give Sheba a bath on the first day of every month when I give her the heartgaurd and frontline stuff.

I read on a Yorkie site that a daily clarifying shampoo will help reduce knots so I've always used Suave daily clarifying shampoo and conditioner on her and for her inbetween groomings/brushings I use a spray bottle with Infusium leave in conditioner very watered down in it to spritz her before I brush out any knots. They come out better if they're damp it seems.

I do use a 27 mm, but mine isn't his "Gold Series"...hmmm...I wonder what the difference is b/t the "Gold Series" and the one I have (the normal silver looking pins)?

what do you guys spray on your babies before their daily brushing?
I just got in my cranberry fields yesterday and used it last night I really love the way it made Abbigails hair soft and shiny but I didnt see anything to use before I brush her.

You guys are great!!! I am going to get a pin brush!! Now could one of you come teach me how to put a bow in her hair???? SHe looks at me like I am trying to rip her eyes out!! So I have been opting for baby barettes but she is learning how to get those out!! Her hair is always in front of her eyes!!

Getting bows in her hair is the one thing Stella tolerates well, but I have a good reward system set up with her also. After a couple of times putting her hair up, not always a great looking job I always gave her a treat. Now when I sit her on my lap and pick up the comb she just lays her head on my knee and doesn't move. Now if she would just get over wanting to be a nudist, she's become a pro at taking her tee shirts off.:woof:

Putting bows on these babies is like magic. One minute it's there, the next minute it's not. But I think it takes a lot of practice and your baby would have to get use it to. I had the same problem when mine was a pup but now he tolerates it pretty well and even sits still for me to re-do it every time it gets loose.

well, I work at a doggie spa, so mine go everyday! haha They get bathed once to twice a week, whether at the shop with me or at home. They get brushed everyday, regardless of whether they are in their summer hairdo's or winter hairdo's. In the summer, they get their hairdo's trimmed up every four weeks.

my friend tells me that a 27 mm gold series has more pins, more flexible or soft relaxed cushion and more quality body.
