New born not gaining weight? I have a new born that is 1 week old and she weighted 3.5 oz at birth and now weights only maybe 4 oz. She did have a set back on day 2 and I about lost her, but she is now doing well and is strong and nursing. Just not gaining? Any Ideas? She had 2 other little girls but one was born dead and the other died on day 1 unexpectedly. |
I would suggest bottle feeding with puppy formula... and giving nutrs cal vitamins...My baby was born really small and the breeder had to bottle feed him and he now a healthy 2lb 9 oz 7 month old who right now will not let me type but wants to type this himself!!! :) |
You could try posting in the breeders forum...there might be more people that have been through the same experience... |

Watch her closely! I just lost a little girl that had gained only an oz in 4 weeks. Check her regularly for dehydration by pinching (not to hurt, just to gather up) some skin and seeing if it returns to normal or stays up. If it stays up, get her to the vet immediately!!! I ended up tube feeding my little girl every three hours because the siblings were 3-4times bigger than her and she could not nurse with them pushing her out. A breeder of bulldogs here in my town gave me a recipe for a dog formula. She says it is way better than any of the commercial formulas out there. It did have my little girl acting better the day before she died, but I just think there was something wrong that her little body did not gain any weight. (Vet could not find anything wrong with her after her death. We could have sent her off to the university, but that would have been $$$$ and not brought her back) In her short life, my little girl was at the vet 3 times. She died at exactly 1 month :( |

I don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to wish you luck with your precious baby. |
Thanks to all for your prayers and support. " Emmie" my little girl seems to be doing good now, She has started to gain some I think. So maybe we are out of the woods for the time being!!! I hope so. She is a real fighter and after losing her 2 sisters it would just tear me up to lose her too. This will probably be the last litter Panda has and I sure would like to get a female out of her, She is such a baby doll and a loving companion. All she wants is to be loved on and to love on you. What more can we ask of them right? I'll keep you up to date and hope to have some pictures later. |
