Puppy Cuts Those with Yorkies who are sportin' puppy cuts, do you still brush them? |
I brush him everyday so that he won't develop matts |
Yes after every walk - as we bring home half the woods :D |
Yep!!!! sure doo!!! Even short could still get all matted up under the arms and around the face!!! I made that mistake the 1st puppy cut. I thought- oh yea not as much work!!! Wrong. Next visit he had to be shaved all the way down. He looked like a rat!!! You don't have to brush as much, but still once a day and its much, much easier!!! ;) |
I would - it gets them used to being brushed... and you also aren't fighting matts or tangles.....so they aren't fighting YOU ! |
I brush Rams 2 to 3 times a day, but thats because he loves it. He will run and get his brush and drag it to me when he wants it. |

But he loves it! |
I brush Zsa Zsa every day . |
Here's a question... What kind of brush do you guys recommend from puppyhood on up? I got Tucker one of those 2-for-1 brushes that has the metal on one side and the bristles on the other but the metal just seems so harsh! His hair is still way too thin for me to comfortably use that and the bristle side only seems to rearrange his top coat and doesn't get underneath. Granted there really isn't much "underneath" there now because he's so little but when he gets older, there's gonna be a lot of "underneath" there! |
I use the double sided ones as well...but now I end up just using a comb to go through the hair and then trying to grab the brush and using the soft bristle part just to smooth it |
I use a 2 sided one too, but I don't use the metal side yet. |
Yup, we brush Yoda everyday, but only for a few minutes each day. Yoda still has long hair on the top of his head as well as some hair on his tail. :p |
....most definitely. Brushing is apart of our nightly ritual, right before bedtime. My comet just got his first professional grooming this past saturday and we love it. It's a great westie cut! his hair was so long that it definitely needed brushing every day. Now with his movie star hair cut he does'nt need brushing, but he sure does love it!! :animal-sm |
Maggie is 14 weeks old. I brush her everyday. I was using a small slicker brush, but those little wire bristles seem so harsh. I started using a man's pocket comb. She doesn't mind that at all. Figured when she gets more hair, then the slicker brush will be put to good use. |
I brush Tino everyday. Just make sure that you are using some kind of a conditioning spray before you brush, otherwise you will break their hair. |
I must be a bad mommy because I don't. It is to painful (on me) to try and brush Lily. She chews on me and the brush. She just hates it and I wonder if she'll ever like it. |
I brush Chewy daily with a comb only and that seems to take care of it. I find that if I put him up on a desk he is a little scared and will stay still for the brushing. Takes about 2 minutes. |

Rosi does the same to me, i just do it every day, today she allmost liked it, well sort of lol |
Maggie doesn't mind the comb at all. I use the comb on her face, legs and tummy. I only use the slicker brush on her back. If I try to use the slicker brush on places that I use the comb, then forget it---she's out of here. :animal-sm |
I guess Otis and I are the oddballs here. His hair is so short, he never gets brushed in the summertime. I seriously think he gets his teeth brushed more than his hair. |
I brush Dudley's hair every day, twice a day as it grows out. I have a hair brush that I used to use on my long hair and he doesn't mind it at all. He , in fact, loves it. When I pick up the brush he comes running to me. It has nylon bristles and a rounded shape. I think I bought it at Avon, maybe, of course years ago. |
yes brushing is a must... i usually try to brush tiny when he is already occupied chewing on something so he wont try to eat his brush i cant wait till his hair is long |
Yes, we still brush/comb as well - thank God for the puppy cut! keeping her hair long was a nightmare for both of us...now if we can just get the potty thing down! |
Lucy has a really short puppy cut and we brush it every day. She enjoys being brushed so much I do it anyway wether she needs it or not! |
