Yorkies and Pools We are going to be spending the weekend at my uncle's home. He has a pool, which we love! Emmy is 1 year old. She loves to be with her mommy and daddy. If we watch her carefully, is it okay to let her in the pool? They have puppy life vests. Will the pool water harm her or make her sick? How will it affect her hair? Thanks... |
I would imagine the chlorine could affect there hair just like ours. I would just give her a fresh water rinse after. Other than that they should be fine. Mine loves to swim in my mom's pond. He usually has to have a bath after the pond swim because he's all stinky. Just be aware they do like to submerge there heads. The first time my dog did this i thought he was drowning, but then he popped back up. |
thanks i wondered about the chlorine in the pool. i wonder how long it would be safe for emmy to stay in the pool with us? we will be in and out all day Sat.-Mon. |
We have a pool and your baby should be just fine - shouldn't affect anything as long as the pool's chemicals are correctly balanced (as I'm sure they are, pretty obvious if it isn't). I bet she'll love it! |
chemicals i think the chemicals are probably fine--the pool guy comes 1-2 times a week, since they are in the pool a lot! thanks! |
:p The dog pool in Thailand that Garfield has ever gone there, does not use the chlorine. The staff told me it is not suitable for the dogs. |
Brutus goes in our pool sometimes to get cool and it hasn't done anything to his hair and he's never taken a drink from the pool. But he'd much rather just float on a raft than swim. |
I know from personal experience that chlorine doesn't affect big dogs, even after long periods of time...I'm not sure about yorkies though, because they can be so sensitive sometimes... |
