Too old for a brother/sister? Scooter is 1 1/2 years old now. I want to bring home a brother or sister for him, but really want to wait a few years so I can afford it better. I was thinking of waiting until he's 5 years old, but is that too late? I'm also thinking about adopting a rescue pet, but I don't know how that will go. I don't have children, I work close to home and can telecommute some, so I have all the time and convenience in the world to raise a new puppy or work with a rescue. Any advice guys? |

I just thought to clarify. My expectation is that a rescue yorkie will cost more than a new puppy with vet bills and special needs. So, my reason for considering a rescue pup isn't because I'm under the delusion that he/she would be more affordable. |

Zsa Zsa was 13 years old when I rescued Jade . It took her 3 days to adjust to the new ones . So , Scooter is not too old . It only depends on the health condition of the rescued one , a puppy from a bad breeder can cost you more too . |

Oh, but thanks for your reply. I'm mainly just concerned with Scooter getting along with a new dog in the house. |

He will be fine i just got a rescue who is two kaycee is seven and abbey is three, kaycee who is a boy loved him imediately but it took abbey a week they all love each other now, abbey and nikki now play and chase each other all around the house, my puppy mill dog cost me $250.00, he had all his shots and had been netured, he is real loving, he growled a lot at first to us but it was not a mean growl, i finally figured thats how he comunicates to get attention, he gets that attention now so he does not do it as much, i feel so blessed with my three babies. |

my brownie is 5 and he loves his little brothers and would love more hes just as peppy as a 1 year old |

I think it should be fine. In fact, I don't think it would be any easier no, than it will be in several years. Maybe you could just prepare by making sure he's friendly with other dogs, especially when they visit your house. |

Well Bella is 2 and I just introduced Diggy 3 weeks ago she loves him, I had a cat who at the age of 6 was introduced to my BF's cat Barney who was 13. It took Barney 6 months or so to accept Cole when he did he reverted back to a kitten and romped like he was 6 months old. Then after 4 years of living together my bf and I split. I took Cole and Barney went down hill. Thought he was just old...he was in complete kidney failure and told take him home, try and comfort him, he wont make it long.....No medicine. My ex bf then called me and said can you bring Cole over to say bye to Barney and maybe let him stay with Barney until he passes he doesnt have long and I am sure he would love be with cole. I said sure took Cole over and within 2 hours was up drinking water, and playing!!!! So i went and got cole after the weekend, and barney went back to not drinking and sickly...I took cole back over to see if he could perk Barney up again, sure enuff Barney was back to being a kitten! I had to make a very hard decision.....I knew if I took Cole, Barney would kill himself by not drinking. I agreed to let cole live with Barney, and when Barney passed I could have Cole back. Guess what....its been 2 more years Barney is 19 years old!!!!! Still alive and well playing with Cole and no signs of kidney failure at all!!! Okay my point being.....A new friend can OBVIOUSLY be theraputic! Get you a new baby!!!! lol HAve fun! |
