Is this normal?? Yorkie spaying Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me. We got our yorkie spayed on Tuesday morning. The vet kept her overnight, and we took her home yesterday morning. Well yesterday she wouldn't eat anything, but she did drink a little water and go outside to the bathroom. Other than that she just layed around all day (which I figure is normal after surgery) Well today she is acting the same way. She won't do anything but lay on her pillow. Mostly she sleeps, but sometimes she just lays there awake. She's only been to the bathroom once, and the only thing she's ate is a treat I gave her earlier. Is it normal for her to still be this sluggish since her surgery was the day before yesterday?? Normally she is really active. The vet didn't give us any pain pills, so its not like she on a lot of meds or anything (other than obviously what they gave her at the vets) I'm planning to call the vet tomorrow morning if she is still like this, but any help tonight would be so great! I feel so bad for her, and I'm worried that she will get really sick tonight. TIA. |
Lucy was like that for 3 days when I had her spayed. Lack of appetite is fairly common after anesthesia, even for humans. I would try to get her to drink more though. Have you tried Pedialyte? I let Lucy lick Pedialyte popsicles and on day 4 she felt much better. |
sounds normal to me.. Layla was out of it for 3-4 days... took her a long while to get over the anesthesia... so don't worry... see if you can intice her to eat with people food.. boiled chicken... rice... oatmeal... and if you have to force water in her with a straw or eye dropper.... Layla also didn't have meds at home but she was fine... poor girl.. hope she feels better soon! |
Thank you both! I feel much better now. I will try to get her to drink a little more. |

You can also give her Pedialyte (the drinks for children) just make sure it is "non flavored". Or she might like to drink chicken broth... you can give that a try too! |
You might be able to perk her up with a little nutrical also. Push the fluides. She should feel better in a day or so. |
