Letting My litte Boy mate only 1 time...HELP Hi Everyone, I have a 5 month old little boy and my breeder called me asking if I would like to have him mate with one of her little girls, I said NO because I have heard things like he will always want the GIRLS from then on, & he will want to hump everything all the time. I need to know if this is true because I wouldnt want that for him, he is my litte boy and the thought of that is gross. So what I need to know is if I let him do it just one time and then get him fixed will he be changed forever and always want the little girls, or am I okay and safe to do it? Please help and let me know! Thanks all Tanya |
Hi Tanya, Sorry to say, but your little boy is going to want it even if you don't breed him. It is just instinct. If you are going to get him fixed, that will take a lot of it away and keep him in your yard more. He must have good qualities if your breeder wants to use him (you would get paid for this service). If he breeds once and then you get him fixed, I honestly don't think it would be any different than if her never "did it". However, your breeder should know that your puppy (who isn't old enough yet) isn't going to walk in there and just know what to do. They try all sorts of things for a VERY long time (not usually even the same day) before they ever get it right. Seriously think about what you want and just do what you feel is right for your little guy. I have a male Rotty who has been fixed for years and on rare occassions, he still gets the urge to "hump"...but nothing serious. |
Just a little addition to my previous reply. You would be shocked at the tender young age the puppies do a humping motion...it is usually way before he goes to his new home after 8 or so weeks. Isn't that surprising? |
breeding The problem comes in waiting to neuter...the sooner the better. If you wait until he is breeding age, perhaps at a year, he could be marking by then...neutering at 6 months does tend to make them a much better boy in the house. Is the breeder asking for a free stud service? |
Hi there, she is not asking for free stu service no, I would get 1/2 of what she makes on the pups, I just am not sure that is what I want to do ya know, he is my precious little boy and I am leaning more towards NO like I told her. Thank you so much for your advice I appreciate it alot! |
stud She is giving you half??? I would do it, get it in writing and ask for an accounting!!! LOL..and the breeder does all the work, that is the best part. Just say there were 4 pups...at an average Yorkie price of $800/$1200 each, you are going to make enough to pay for your Yorkies vet expenses for many years to come. Breeder must want to use this male bad!! Although these things rarely work out, someone always seems to ripped off..best wishes |
Hi Pat, Really, is that a good deal? I have no idea. She does want to use him really bad she was talking about his wonderful Burgundy blood line and his small size blah blah blah, I am sure you know how it goes. Im just scared he wont be the same is all. Thanks for your reply I really appreciate it! |
stud Quite frankly I would find it hard to believe the breeder would hand over half of $3000/$4000 for simply using a male..she could use the best champion in the country for that much..and still have alot of money leftover. I am sure your boy is lovely, but there are Burgundy champion studs for a fee of $500. Do what you feel is best for your boy. You could wait for her to use him and wind up with nothing, but a male who is marking everywhere. I never noticed breeding changed my boys personalities, but they do accquire so many bad habits a pet owner perfers not to deal with.. |
WOW $3000 or $4000 that is insane, they only go for up to $1500 at the most where I am at, she is in Eastern washington and she only sells hers for $900, which is a good deal but $3 or $4 thousand is crazy. I think I am going to pass up the offer it is freaking me out! Thanks again! |
Hi Tanya, its Julz again. Like others are saying, "She's giving you half????" That would be shocking. Normally for stud service you get pick of the litter, or an amount equal to one puppy or less of an amount, but never have I heard of getting half of the money from a litter. You would definetly have to sign a contract for that agreement (or any agreement for that matter). She may want the bloodline of your puppy, but she is the one "at risk" because she has the female and anything can happen. If you are getting your pup neutered, better to do it as soon as the vet will allow. If you are not, and do decide to breed with her, more or less the only "risk" you should run into with the male is a sexually transmitted disease. Check into these things and double check with the breeder and see what the intentions really are. The above post from Pat means half of the $total from the entire litter, not 3-4 thou per pup. It just doesn't make sense that the breeder would offer half of what she would make on the litter. she has care of the female, risk of the females health, vet bills, care of the puppies, and more and more vet bills just for one litter. |
I think you should definately say no because you are very clearly uncomfortable with the idea. |
Can you post a picture of him ? |
I am wondering about why his breeder wants to use one of her own unless she has added new stock to her kennel. Unless he is exceptional in some way, he is a pet and should be treated as such. YorkieRose has had LOTS of experience with males as pets and studs and she will tell you that these boys can become incessant markers if not neutered early. I would not want to ruin a perfectly happy loving relationship with my male pet by studding him out, even once.. |
