I got a girl. I have never had good luck with boys. (potty training, hyper, marking territory...different breed than yorkie, though) Anyways, we always stick with girls now. "I" feel they are easier to housebreak and train, and I have always had good luck with super personalities!!! Although, my last little has 2 perfect boys, and it was very HARD, not to keep them!!! They are all perfect, I guess it is what you are used to!!! ;) |
I just want to clarify, so I don't offend anyone with a girl dog; I don't mean that all girl dogs are uppety. I'm sure all the princesses on this board are very sweet!!!! I just heard that boys tend to be a bit more affectionate towards their owners and girls tend to be more independent. -O |
when i began looking i wanted and had to have a little girl - was going to name her diva! :p i wanted to have a girly-girl around because i am the only woman in the house! LOL but when i saw romeo sitting there looking up at me i just had to have him no matter what. i will get a girl next year though so it will all work out in time. |
My husband and I had our hearts set on a boy so we could name him Jimmy (long story)...but when we went to go pick out a puppy, it was a little girl who chose us instead! Looking back, I'm grateful to have a girl because of potty training....I think I would have so much more frustration if I had to deal with marking on top of potty training! Now that we ahve Tia and i have a bit of experience, i feel like I could get a boy pup and know what too expect. |
My male yorkie was 100% potty trained within a month of having him. He had the whole pee pad thing down in less than a week, so I don't believe the stereotype that girls are easier to potty train :) |
Prior to getting Horatio I had two girls...one Yorkie and one Poodle/Peke mix. When I had to have the Poodle/Peke mix put down my Uncle got another one...a boy though. Even though I loved the two I now had I was not happy with how the boy would mark. And there was the rubbing the belly thing too. So, when my then girl Yorkie and male mix were gone and I decided I needed another baby...I knew I wanted another Yorkie and my first choice was a girl. However, there was only the one boy available to me and I didn't want to wait any longer so I took a chance on him and I've never regretted it. I've gotten over the marking issue and belly hazard. ;) |
I chose my Teddy because it was an instinctive feeling I had. I saw him and knew he would be perfect for my little family. And he was. Total lap dog. I picked up Theresa because I wanted them to be from the same family, and they look so much alike, and have a lot of the same mannerisms. It's adorable. And..what they say about female dogs is not the case when dealing with my Theresa. She's a lap dog just like my Teddy is. I guess I got lucky.. or they are really spoiled! Ashley |
i always wanted a little yorkie girl bc i loved the outfits, and bows, and bc i am soo girly i just thought it would match my personality better. then when i saw her, i knew she was the one. she had the cutest brown eyes, and we just fell in love. |
Thanks for answering! I'm leaning a bit more towards a girl because to be honest I'm a bit afraid of dog penis after seeing a German Shepard's penis when I was like 14! Also, reading a few posts here that said their dog's penis comes out when he's excited or it sometimes gets "stuck" has me even more afraid... lol. I'm not sure how I would bring that up to my dad (since he pays for everything) if I needed to take the dog to the vet: "He needs to go to the vet Dad! He has a problem." "What's the problem?" "Err, his penis is sticking out. :o" |
I wanted a girl and when I went to look at the litter I fell in love with Armani.. love at first sight.. I knew I had to have him, I would have taken all of them if I could. However for my next yorkie I prob want a girl :) just cuz all the clothes from all the yorkie members are o so cute! |
I got a girl. I prefer girl dogs over boys because girls seem sweeter. I have just had better experiences with girls. :) |
I got my Lucy first. When I went to the breeder's house, she came up to me and sat down on my feet and that was it! 4 mos later I went back and got my little Rebel. I wanted one of each and I feel like I have the best of both worlds. |
I didn't want to risk getting a boy who would hike all over everything marking his territory, so I ruled out a boy IMMEDIATELY! I was all about getting a little girl! |

i chose a female because i don't want to see my dog's genitals. |
I have always loved girl animals. I wanted a prissy little thing too!:p |
I've always had male pets so I never even considered a female. Brutus has never marked or humped and for the record I've NEVER seen his "lipstick"!:p |
I picked a boy because for one boys are cheaper and he was also the smallest puppy of the litter. He was very shy and bashful when we went to see him. His brother was very outgoing and really hogged all of the attention. He wanted nothing to do with us at first and was very scared and very shy. NOW... LOL He goes ape S#$@ if I leave. He is a momma's boy there is no doubt! LOL He will jump up and down on me just to get me to pick him up and hold him. Very Spoiled! He was also housebroken by the time he was 5 months old. He isn't fixed and and the only thing he marks are all of the bushes outside. He has never marked in the house. He also LOVES to be loved on. If I was to ever get another one there is no way I could ever go with a girl after having him. I have had male and female dogs when I was growing up and I have to admit that I prefer the personality of males dogs much better. |

Comming from owning females, I kept a super beautifull male that I bred and neutered him at 6 month. Couldnt be much happier with the results (Oh, and his micro penis is hardly noticed!) |
For my first yorkie I wanted a girl because I've never had one and I wanted to dress her up with cute clothes. I never had a girl cause my mom always said that they are bitchy, aggressive and independent and that the boys were more loyal and friendly-Not true! When I was looking for my little girl and came across an ad for a cute little girl I called the breeder and she said that girl had just been sold and that she only had one male left. She sent me a picture of him and I fell in love. That is when I got Teddy. I still wanted to get my little girl so I started looking again like a month later and now I have London and she is not at all aggressive, bitchy or anything. She is very sweet, friendly and loves her mama. So I have both genders and I love them both in different ways. |

personally I woulnt submit a 4 month old pup to anesthesia. And yes my boy (now an fully grown adult) doesn't miss a shot on his pee-pads with no leg lifting. Of my five Yorkies, he and his mother are the only ones that are full time loose around the house.;) |

My family used to have cockers. I had two, both boys, my nana had two and cousins who lived near us had 4. They were all boys and seriously all pigs. They just loved dirt and usually tried to hump stuff. Also, they were really hyper. When my last cocker died, I swore to never get another cocker or boy dog as long as I live. I wanted a girl and had a bond when I got Vickie, so it was a match. She's friendly, calm, loving, sweet, and a great dog. She's not really into dirt and humping (and she will get spayed) so I feel I got rid of the boy qualities that personally bugged me. I'm calm person and feel boy animals, even cats, are too hyper for me. |

As beautifull as my cocker was, I will never own one again, regardless of the sex. The behavior of Male yorkies, specially if neutered, cannot be compared to that of a cocker. |
I was going to get a girl this time around but my breeder talked me into a boy. In her house, she has had experience that some girls are very sweet but that her boys were more loving, loyal, and cuddly. I love hyper and mischevious and that is what I got...but I asked for it. My dog is a TON of work. Absolutely brilliant (I've had two boy dogs and both were VERY intellegent), athletic, fun, and loving. I did neuter him at 6 1/2 mos and still struggle with my decision. One study said to wait until after a year for bone development...but I was afraid to wait because I didn't want bad habits to start. My friend wanted me not to neuter him at all and train him not to hump and lift leg. He is very hyper as is and I cannot imagine those hormones ragging through him and me trying to train that out of him along with our obediance training. I had another boy briefly who was the complete opposite. Very calm. I have friends with females and on every walk we go on, they mark just as much if not more as my dog. My dog's mother even lifts her leg. suzie |
See, I didn't really think about marking and other gender-related issues. For me it was the simple fact of seeing 1 guy with 5 girls in this yorkie litter. I felt sorry for the guy as he was "teased" by the girls. I had to pick him out and now he's acting like me. Don't know if that's a good thing or not! Rusty's only 12 weeks old and he was already starting to hump just last week. I was like err? You kidding me? :P |
