Uh-oh, Bernie's a hunter... So, yesterday, dh and I are out in the yard the whole fur family, and suddenly, Bernie dives into the ferns and comes out with an adult chipmunk!   I freaked, dh yelled at him to drop it, which he did after two victory laps, then he came up into the house with me (I had high-tailed it to the goodie jar hoping to distract him). Anyway...it was already too late for the chipmunk... I had a neighbors dog get a bunny once (it lived) and cats are always killing things around here, but I never thought my sweet little loving Bernie would... I KNOW it's his nature, and I guess he's a good hunter, but I felt bad for the chipmunk, and well, YUCH |
LOLOLOL I hate laughing over the death of a cute little chipmonk but GO BOY on the VICTORY LAPS !! That's soooo cute ...I can just see him in my mind with a big ol happy face :D :D My girls have each caught a bird ...they didn't ACT murderous when they did it lol - I think they just can't resist ... he must be a good hunter - you gotta be FAST to catch chipmonks...they're fast little suckers |

Brownie would have swallowed it whole lol poor things you would think they would be smart enough to smell dog and not go in there |

   Now that's a picture!!! Yeah, its like the mother rabbit who dug her nest right in the middle of my fenced yorkie-yard (duh)...we actually moved them to another spot so that we could put a fence around them...silly rabbits. |
LOL ...I agree with Lenora - you'd think they'd know there are dogs close... but it's Bernies turf so he gets to pick who stays and who goes lol |
Hey, ginger, have you read the post on my Boots pinning a rat to the wall. I dont how to get it up. But beleive me I no the feeling. |

Lizard hunt !! :D Bogey now knows that lizards are around & he is determined every time he goes outside to hunt for them. At least he stays busy & it tires him out before it's over with.:animal36 |
OMG Victory Laps!! That is sooooooooo funny :) but gross too!!! |
maybe you could buy him a stuffed chipmunk...... |
I have to comment...Bernie is quite the little hunter...and the victory laps must have been hilarious. At least he didn't bring it in the house...eeewww. I have had bunnys make nest in my fenced in yard too...I think, they think its safer there...no cats...but then I have to babysit the baby bunnys til they're grown up, and hop out of the yard. |

Well, last Mother's Day Bella went out to potty and I opened the door to let her in and in she comes with a dead squirrel in her mouth. Dropped it lovingly at my feet, and looked totally confused when I screamed and screamed for my husband. Elaine. |

Gracie, So sorry I didn't save Bernie's trophy to send to you, he didn't tell me what it was for. I promise the next prize he hunts down for you, we will be sure to package and send to your mommy. Bernie's DADDY |
Weren't Yorkies originally supposed to ferret out small rodents? He must have been very proud of himself. :D Our Malamute/Coonhound Molly has gotten 12 chickens (a homeschool project), 2 pet rabbits, 2 possums, and numerous squirrels and birds. It felt like pet semetery around here for awhile! |
Still laughing over Bernie's newest quest. Shouldn't he have a new name? "Bernard, the Great"; "Bernie, hunter extraordinaire"? Sophie hated the squirrels in the backyard and she would chase them out. Of course, with barking that most likely drove the neighbors crazy. She did corner a baby possum that walked through the sliding door though. That little critter was so tiny, razor sharp looking teeth that continued to show me until I took a broom and gently pushed it back outside. Give Bernie a pat on the head because he probably feels he was saving the family from an intruder. Perhaps a new commando jacket is in order? |
