venting I lost it today. I took Mika for her walk and her doggie friend was at the dog park, so I let her in to play. They were playing erally nicely, and two boys came in and started teasing Mika. She gets rreally protective of me, so she got mad and started barking at them. They came into the park, even though I told them not to, and Mika did NOTHING to hurt them. She stood by my legs and was barking at them, so I ignored them. They started calling to her, anhd she started getting more mad, but she still stayed by me. Next thing I knew, they started throwing tennis balls at her AND WAVING AROUND BASEBALL BATS NEXT TO HER. I told them tgo cut it out or else, and they laughed and said it was just a ball/bat. That was it, I lost it. I started screaming at them telling them if they hit her I'll get them back, and they could kill a dog if they hit her in the head. I must've looked like a psycho, but I couldn't take it. Then the guy who was with his dog started yelling at them too. I left and started walking home. They caught up to me right as I was leaving the park and started joking around about it so then I lost it again and started yelling that it's not funny they could've really hurt her and that if they ever come near me or my dog again I'm calling the cops. Maybe I overreacted, but I can't stand when people are mean to dog, especially such a little one. She can't defend herself, she barely weighs 10 pounds. She masy be a big Yorkie, but she's still a small dog.        Sorry it's kind of long, I had to get it all out. I'm really having a terrible day:( |
Hi Natalie. I see you are in NJ (Like me) was this the dog park in Lakehurst? I've never gone but just wondering. Some people really suck. Next time give them a Jersey Girl axx kicking. LOL. Elaine |
I absolutely do not feel that you were in the wrong. They had no business in the dog park. However it is very dangerous to be alone with kids like that. You never know what they will do. I would have taken out my cell phone and called the police, but I would not have left the park alone. You were very lucky that they didn't hurt you or the dog. if they were bold enough to stand there and talk back to you and to taunt the dog in front of you and the man in the park, then they obviously have no respect at all for authority. |

you did the right thing girl, you were just protecting your baby, kids can be very cruel to animals....:( |
How old were these boys? Have you seen them before? I would go ahead and call the cops and tell them what happened, that way, IF it ever happens again, they have a record of a previous incident. Carry some mase or vinagar spray with you until you get another cell phone. |
man i hear ya. i just started going to the dog park in lyndhurst and its very nice. however sometimes people come in with their kids and no dog just so the kids can play with everyone else's dogs. they are small kids, usually between 5 and 10, and they run around screaming and chasing the dogs. I immediately scoop morgan up and hold her until they leave or i leave. |
Next time have your cell phone handy and if anything like that happens again, call the cops right in front of them. Be sure your able to identify them. |

Another idea is to be sure your next cell phone is a camera phone. Then you won't have to worry about remember descriptions. |
Definitely call the cops next time. They had no right to do that. If they had done that to my little puppy, I wouldn't have been nearly as nice as you! And then if your dog would have bitten them, it would have been your fault which is ridiculous. What brats! Hope you have a better time when you go next and be on the lookout |

where is the park in wallington? i'd like to check it out. I live in Clifton. |
What a terrible experience! As a former teacher, I have to say you did exactly the right thing. They needed to be yelled at. I would carry my broken cell phone until I got a new one and pretend to call the police. They dont know that it's broken. They have some nerve threatening you again outside of the park. Maybe you should be a little more careful until you have your phone really fixed. |
