i feel so dumb i have never had any problems with Peeka he has been perfect am i doing something worng???? |
Ear Infection Could be yeast. We had our German shorthair to the vet the other day. I had been treating for ear mites, but it was a bad yeast infection. We have to clean his ears out 2-3 times a week. The vet said once they have these yeast problems it can be something they will continue to deal with, especially with floppy eard dogs. So I would go to the vet just to be sure. Kay |

Friday has stand up ears. I never had this problem with Monday, who has floppy ears. And I never had to pluck hair from Monday's ears but it seems Friday needs to have that done. Have the vet take a sample and tested it (cytology), (it was dark gunk) it was diagnosed as OTITIS EXTERNA due to yeast. Good Luck! |
poor daisy.....tell us as soon as you talk to the vet....i am sending that little baby tons of kisses!!!!! |
One of Reb's ears was like that and it was an infection. The way I noticed it was that his ear had a very sour smell to it. The vet gave him an antibiotic ointment to put in his ear twice a day and it was gone in a couple of days, but the treatment continued for 7 days. |
If her ears don't smell or look red it may just be wax build-up. I finally got up the courage to pluck the hair out of my two's ears and I was surprised at how easy it was and how well they tolerated it:) |
Sounds like yeast to me. I just took Misha in a couple of weeks ago with this. The vet plucked her ears & charged me $35 to do it. My groomer usually does this, but must have forgot the last time. The vet said hair in the ear holds moisture, which will cause yeast. Get Daisy into the vet for meds, it will clear it up. Then I would take Daisy to a groomer for her ears every 8 weeks. They can just do ears, that's fairly cheap for that. Max went to the groomer a couple of weeks ago. She did his face, ears, nails & pads for $20. P.S I forgot to add, Misha's ears didn't have a smell. |
Ellie just got treated for the same thing. Evidentally she had it for a long time. We tried cleaning out her ears before but nothing really worked until she was diagnosed with a yeast infection. She has stand up ears. The cytology was $17.00, the medicine was about $35.00 I think and the stuff to clean them out was well over $15.00. It did get better but seems to be coming back.:( |
Poor Daisy! Lamar had that brown gunk in his ears and it ended up being an infection. Do Daisy's ears smell bad? If they don't have an odor it could just be wax build-up. The vet gave me this drying solution that I have to put in all the dogs' ears after they have a bath or after they get wet to prevent infection. Yorkies are prone to infections because of all that hair in their ears. YOu could ask the groomer to pluck those hairs every time she gets groomed. If you take her to the vet, ask them about that drying solution you can put in her ears after she gets wet. It'll help. Hope little girl gets well soon!!!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's just wax and not an infection. |
the stuff in it doesn't smell. so i don't know i wasn't able to get the ahold of my vet today i will have to try again tomarrow |
Ahhh, I hope little Daisy is ok once you talk to or go see your vet. We worry about them so much, as we are their moms to. |
have you talked to the vet yet?? |
Amber, You can clean her ears yourself. It is not hard. Use something like this: earwash at petsmart Just squirt it in, fold her little ear down to close it, and rub gently. Then use a cottonball to wipe it out. She'll shake her head to get the most of it out, then you cottonball out the wax. |
