can anybody tell me what it mean when....
 

ok so i am at work and my girlfriend calls me and tells me she is concerned wiht our lil one...she took jadia my yorkie outside to pottie and she told me that when jadia walks, she looks like she is about to fall over..she wobbles....i am concerned cus this is the first yorkie i have ever had...and i dont really know the typical medical history of a yorkie..she is only 11 months old...does this mean anything...
and allso is it harmful for jadia to eat cat food.....she wont eat her food but she chows down on the cat food and then ends up throwing it all up cus she doesnt take the time to chew her food...i am worried about that very much! Any advice would be helpfulllll

Cat food is not good for dogs. Although, they do love it, a yorkie is so small that a quality dog food is a must.

I would call your vet right away. she needs to be seen it could be many things. And please keep us updated.

Like the others said Cat food is NOT good for dogs. It is entirely too high in protein for dogs.

If you are concerned I would suggest taking your baby to the vet just to make sure it is nothing major.

The cat food is most likely the problem, she needs a good DOG food. Thats why the manufacturers make cat food for cats and dog food for dogs, there is a reason why they do this, they have different nutrients in them. She's probably having a hypoglacemia episode giver her some Nutri cal or a little karyo syrup with water, it will give her a sugar boost and stop her wobbly gate. A vet check maybe necessary.

Is she still wobbly? Just don't leave the cat food down thats the only thing I can think of.

Can you maybe put the cat food up on a small table or stool where the cat could jump but the yorkie couldnt get to?

I feed Gracie in her ex-pen with the door shut. I do not free feed the cats. When the cats are done eating, all the food gets picked up and Gracie gets let out of her pen. It really is a challenge at our house, between Gracie, and one cat on a strict diet. Meal time is not a happy time! Ha Ha. You could try feeding your Yorkie in a separate room, could use a baby gate if you don't want to shut the door.

When you have too much protien it can mess your liver up, when your liver is messed up it can make ammonia build up in your blood and when that happens you can't walk and you are disoriented. You need to get her to the vet asap and have her liver checked. Give her some nutical or karo like someone else mentioned, since she is vomiting, she may be hypoglycemic too. Hope she does ok and keep up posted.

We had trouble with Sukoshi trying to eat the cats' food as well, and she also seemed to find especially delicious treats in their litter box, :tongue036 so we put up a little blockade to keep her from going into the room where we keep the cat boxes and food/water. We originally put their boxes and food/water up on a couple little stands that we built, but then we decided it was easier and cleaner looking to just put them back on the floor and keep Sukoshi out. We bought a package of shutters from Home Depot like you'd put on the outside of the house, and laid on their side, they're the perfect height (or width, if you had them standing up like on a house) to keep a little Yorkie out! I hope your baby is ok!

When my yorkie ate dog food and he would throw up, many times, the kibbles came up whole also. It sounds like he chews, but I don't know...He no longer eats dog food, he's on a special homecooked diet for dogs with liver problems. I think you need to take your baby to the vet in the morning. Have your friend rub a little bit of honey on her gums in case it is a hypoglycemia attack. If I were you, I would get a Bile Acid test done to find out about the liver. It costs about $40 and it will give you peace of mind. This is just advice because I'm totally paranoid about dogs that exhibit those behaviors as many times it can point to a liver problem even if the dog has never had any other symptoms.

Well how long has she been eating the cat food?? Tell your girlfriend to give her about 1/4 teaspoon of kyro syrup and water just because she did see her wobbly today, it won't hurt her, just to be on the safe side.

I don't think its necessarily life threatening but I would def. try to see the vet tomorrow!

I Actually Have Some Stuff In A White Tube That I Put On My Finger And Give Her..i Bought It When I First Got Her...i Think It Is Actually For Dogs And There Sugar Levels..i Told My Girl To Give This To Her Asap...i Am Gonna Make An Appt For Her And Take Her To The Vet Just To Get Her A Full Body Check Up..she Is Due For Her Shots Again Anyway....

I have to find my guy piece by piece , so he does not throw up food.. I slow him down, and he does not feed freely.You could also use a blender on his food.

Im assuming what your giving her is Nutrical. That will also help if it hypoglycemia....plus it supplements her not being a good eater.


Eating cat food....Most dogs will....it does not mean there is something wrong with her. It is a very appealing thing to a dog....Its new, they usually know it's a no no so thrilling to get to...lol....but not designed for a dogs needs.

Your dog should have a bile-acid test whether you suspect liver problems or not. PLUS it will help ease your stressing/worrying....trust me....I am going through it right now. It is something that affects MANY yorkies as you can read up on in here...many of my posts are on liver shunts due to my 11 week old had seizures and we suspected liver shunt. As it turns out many factors played into his wobbilies, lathargic, disoriented, not eating....a mix of coccidia and hypoglycemia...both relatively easy to treat (albon suspension meds, and many mini meals and nutrical)

My advice to you is get the necessary tests ran now to catch anything she may have early. It can go down hill FAST Mine went from attacking dandylions and bouncing around like a rabbit to 7 seizures in 7 hours.... Had I educated myself with the help of my breeder(mine was/is useless) I would have known to put kayro on her gums for a quick fix and to stop the seizures. I would have had the bile acid test scheduled ASAP and I would have told my breeder these tests should be done BEFORE you let them go. Also he was sold to me at 7 weeks 4 days old....thats WAY too young. But in unsanitary living conditions he was better off with me anyway. He had coccidia from it being so nasty there.

Im not trying to make you paranoid. Odd are your baby is fine and may have slightly low blood sugar that is very treatable. Don't you think you would feel better having these tests ranand ruling out most of the worries you have?? Enjoy your puppy, and allow yourself peace of mind with a vet visit and some inexpensive tests! Good luck!

Oh when my 2 year old eats really fast she vomits. food is swollen and still whole ! Maybe because your baby knows its wrong and is gobbling the cat food fast she ends up throwing it all up?? Or does she throw up her regular food too?

Simple, don't give it to her. Remove it from the floor after the cat eats.
Put them on a schedule and don't free freed. Keep her out of the room
while the cat eats then take up the bowl.
Your pup may be getting sick from eating it so I think you need to step in.
There are many good dog foods on the market. Is your kibble very small?
Maybe that's why she won't eat it. Maybe to large. Try Canidae, Merricks, Natural Balance ORganic, all excellant food for your dog. Mix it with can soft dog food if
you have to, to get her to eat it. Or make fresh boneless chicken breast and mix it in with the dog food. Good luck I hope she will be ok.
