Yorkies on the News this morning I was watching he morning news - I think it was CBS and they did a short story about the popularity of Yorkies! It was well done. They cautioned about being scammed into buying "teacups" because there really is no such thing, and they went into some of the health problems the tiniest ones may face. They had a home breeder on who came down very hard on sellers who she said have been known to charge up to $5000 for a "teacup." She cautioned about looking for an honest breeder and avoiding puppy mills. I was kind of surprised that there was so much common sense coming from a news show! |
wow that is cool!! They so seem to be on the most wanted list!! Or maybe I am noticing it more because I always get comments when I am out with my baby of how cute he is, where I got him and how they want one etc!!!I feel blessed to be able to have one!!! |
Wonderful news!! With yorkies being so popular, people need to be educated :) |
I also heard on the radio that cuz of their popularity and expensive price they are the #1 breed to get stolen. Make sure to keep an eye your little ones at all times. |
I'm glad they are talking about this on the news so that people are more aware. I hope word gets out even more, maybe it will make people think twice about leaving their yorkies in hot cars this summer! |
kool..... |
very cool, I would have liked to see that |
This is good to hear. Maybe it would open the eyes of some buyers before they run to these puppy stores!:animal36 |

whenever you take ANY breed and starting charging $5000 for a puppy i promise you it will be the "it" dog! when we got out first rottie they were the dog to have and the prices were waaaaay up there, too. and now with the news doing stories on them people are just going to use that to justify charging even more for them! some people are all about the quick buck. and some people just want to be able to say "hey! i have one of those $$$$$ dogs!" |
I was just reading an article in this month's AKC Newletter that Yorkies have moved up to the #2 position in popularity ratings in the States! Please, please keep an eye on your popular babies!!! |
Yes, you will have some breeders doing that, but the ones that really care about their dogs do not play that game. I had a tiny that I was not sure if I should sell her or not, and if I was in it for the money I could of sold her for 2 or 3 thousand dollars, but to me it is much more important to have a good home than it is to get the most money. She was a year old when I finally gave in and sold her for 1000.00, she was 3 pounds, had already been chipped, had all shots, had been tested for liver problems (bile acid tests) had her legs checked, went with her own crate, toys, blanket and food. Could I have gotten more if I had advertised her for sale, I sure could of, but could I have been sure of a good home, probably not. Baron Quote:
