Smoking and Yorkies!(All smokers and non smokers please) I was just sitting down having a cigarette and my Pheoebe caughed and looked at me like saying ''Mommy put that darn cigarette out'' Can someone tell me if I should smoke in another room than the one my yorkies are in or it does not affect them as much. I would immagine it does but please advise. |
Good question. I do not smoke but I would imagine that smoking is bad for anything that breaths fresh air like we do.:aimeeyork Smoking around your furkids must make their coat stink like cigarettes right? |
Yorkies are living breathing things , and just as we should not breath in second hand smoke... they shouldn't either. Personally, when I smoked, (I have quit smoking now for 5 years) I would go outside to smoke, no matter the weather. I didnt want my skin kids to breath in or deal with the lingering smells that smoke left in our house. So I would first suggest to smoke outside, or def. at the very least in another room. Ps. I think it is admirable that you noticed this and want to truly do the best thing    |
If it's horrible for you and your human family, why wouldn't it be just (actually, I would imagine it being worst since they are so tiny) as horrible for your dog? :) |
Thanks girls...I have decided to quit smoking now and want at least to smoke outside as well. At the minute the only room I smoke in is the kitchen and my babies are in and out. We do smoke with the kitchen door open, but I know that's not enaugh.I do take care of my babie's coat to smell nice and everyone tells me they do smell nice. I just thought I should ask for some advise. Any good methods to stop smoking? |
I have never smoked so that is one thing I did not have to quit but "cold turkey" has always been the best for me! Good luck |
Well, you know it is bad for anyone to breathe in secondhand smoke. Maybe this could be an incentive for you to quit! It's not as hard as you might think, I quit 11 yrs. ago after the birth of my first grandchild, I am so glad I did. I'm sure my pets and family members appreciate it also:) |
Aww, I'm not gonna beat ya down because it always takes alot in this day and age to admit to anyone that you smoke. I know, I used to smoke and endured some "looks" here and there. I quit for about the 4th time over 1yr ago. Its always hard for me come spring/summer, my body wants to smoke automatically, but I am not gonna do it this time. I quit with an antidepressant (wellbutrin) and the patch. The antidepressant helped with the usual weight gain and emotions and the patch helped with the nicotine withdrawal. Those damn cigs, they are soooo adictive at so many levels. Good to smoke outside either way, and even better to quit. Your furbabies need you around for a long time. Kathy |
I've never smoked, so I don't know any good methods for stopping, but I wanted to wish you luck. Your health will be so much better if you can only give that up, but I know it's a difficult struggle. My grandpa tried for years to quit smoking, and he finally did...when he died of lung cancer! We thought this would be enough to wake my dad up (well...that and also seeing my grandma wheel around his oxygen tank), but no...my dad still smokes. He says he just doesn't want to quit. So I commend you for making the effort. I'm sure your furbabies will appreciate it too! |
Thanks everyone. It's true...quiting smoking is soooooo darn hard, but I know I'll do it sooner rather than latter. I do want my babies to be healthy. I would die if anything will happen to them just because I wanted some toxic air in my lungs. |

I limited my cigs down to so many a day and made my hubby take the rest with him. In just a short time I was completely done , but still with a strong desire that I just did not give in to. My hubby quit by using the Quest cigs. It is 3 steps... I took the first step cigs by Quest and smoked them until they started feeling satisfying. Then he went to the second pack (Second Level) and smoked them until they started being satisfying. He then started smoking the last level (this level contains 0% nicotine ) this level you are basically wheening yourself from the habit of smoking ... you know.. lighting up... bringing your hand to the mouth... it is also a habit of action as well as the nicotine :) Good Luck! You can do it!   |
Don't beat yourself up, hon - look how much you care! Quitting smoking is SO hard - but you can do it, you really can. There are studies that show passive smoking (what your babies are experiencing) is actually more carcinogenic than actual smoking....so good for you for wanting to quit! :) |
Try the Chantix medication from your Doctor. It is getting rave reviews and has worked for my husband and myself. Good luck to you. |
When we got Misha, the breeder asked if we smoke. Smoke will irritate their eyes & make them water more, causing them to stain. I was told not to have anyone smoke around her. So I won't let anyone smoke around the kids. We have people smoke on our lanai, never in the house. P.S. My brother died from lung cancer last year, he was 65. He tried to quit a couple of times & it didn't last. |
