Please help I need advice? What flea & tick drops is everyone using? What about Hartz advance care Flea & Tick Drops, does anyone reccommend using this? |
I live in oklahoma where the fleas and ticks are pretty bad in the summer and my vet recommended frontline plus and it works wonderfully |
Flea and Tick Frontline seems to work best .I think it is safer too. We don't have fleas here but when Bo and I go to Texas to visit Grandma that is what I use. It lasts for a month and I have never brought a flea back like with some of the other products. |
Do not use Hartz Do not use Hartz products. Many dogs have died using them. Do an internet search. These products are not safe. I use Revolution for my two, kills ticks, fleas, mites, mange and protects against heartworm all with one product. Never found a flea on my boys in the year that they have been on it. |
Is revolution found jest at vets are is it at pet stores? thanks for the info. |
Many people I know recommend, and will only use, frontline. |
Frontline does not protect against heartworm I agree that Frontline is an excellent product, however, Frontline does not protect against mites, mange and heartworm. If you live in an area with any mosquitos protecting your pup against heartworm (which is usually fatal and the few treatments are dangerous and painful to the dog) is extremely important. With the Frontline, a heartworm med must be given each month also, with Revolution it takes care of the whole ball of wax. I pick mine up at my vets, for dogs under 10 pounds $30 is for three months. |
Do you need to see the vet and get a heart worm test, or just buy over the counter? Thanks! Pat |
I use advantage, food for thought for those that have 2 or more dogs! it cost the same for large dog viles as the under 10 pounds... I buy the ones for larger dogs and divide it among them using a syringe to extract it to insure the proper amount. Ask your vet to explain it to you and how much to do on each dog....you save a lot of money |
I use frontline, it was adviced by both breeders and vet. |
Bella gest the Revolution once a month. It is flea/tick and heartworm all together. We bought 7 months worth at the vet since we had a coupon if we bought 6 months we got one month free. It's pretty easy and she doesn't mind it |
We use Frontline also. |

I also use Inseptor tablets once a month for all the other nasty little worms. Bye the way, Welcome |
We Had Huge Flea Problems! Last year, Baxter had fleas, and we COULD NOT get rid of them! Oh, it was bad. We did EVERYTHING-flea dips at the groomers, flea shampoo, flea collar-everything. As a last resort, we went to a store and one of the ladies recommended Zema flea shampoo and Bio Spot drops. I had NEVER used the drops before-NEVER. These 2 things are the ONLY things that worked! We used the shampoo maybe twice and the drops once and they were completely gone-not one left. I have NEVER had a dog with fleas like this-it was terrible. We were giving him baths every day, giving him flea shampoo (several different kinds) as often as allowed. I used the flea spray on the carpet and on his bed. Washed his bed every day...none of this stuff worked. But like I said, after using the Zema once, it killed most of them, and what that didn't get rid of, the drops did. |
Frontline Plus for toy breeds and small puppies has worked great for comet. I am curious about Revolution. It would be great to combine the flea/tick and heartworm all in one pill! |
Not a pill Revolution is not a pill but administered to the back of their necks like Frontline. Yes, it is necessary to have your dog checked for heartworm prior to giving it to them, but my vet only charges $15 for the test, which I have done every 18 months just to be careful. We have had a lot of rain here in so called sunny CA and have had more standing water, so between heartworms and west nile, I want to be extra careful. |
Fleas, Ticks and other nuisances My vet recommended Frontline Plus and I have never seen a flea or tick on either dog. That works for me. I do have to give Heartguard too but it's no big deal, they will eat it without a problem. |
My vet has always recommended Revolution for Baby. She has been on it since she was about 12 wks old. I think it saves on cost because it does everything; including heartworms! |

our vet recommended frontline and we also use heartguard. |
flea problem I would be interested in this other product as well never heard of it?? How much is it ? I will have to check with the vet about it. I use front line spray. It works well. so what is the cost of this other? how does it come in pill form? |
If you are asking about Inseptor pills, they are from the vet, and I honestly don't remember the cost, but it wasn't outlandish. It prevents all but tape worms. It is a tiny pill that Jack eats without fuss. I use Frontline Plus drops. |
My vet suggested I use Advantix for JPop.....that's the one with the cute puppy at camp in the commercial. It guards against fleas, ticks and misquitos, and he gets heartguard every month. So far so good, even tho, I do occassionaly find a tick. By the way, I'm in hot, humid Louisiana. |
I use K9 Advantix. I used to use Frontline but the vet switched when we got Riley. They both seem to work wonderfully. I have also heard great things about Revolution, and BAD things about Hartz products. I don't know if this part is true, but I heard Hartz products can cause brain damage. Even if that isn't true, I have heard that they can be very dangerous all together! |
