Autumn got a birdie!! :rbyorkie: Well I put Autumn out this morning and I was standing by the door watching her chase a leaf that was blowing around and smiling to myself about how cute she looked when all of a sudden two little birdies flew down low to the grass. Well before I keep blink an eye Autumn jumped up and had one in her mouth. I just stood there shocked for a second (I did not think she could or would do this) I ran outside and had to chase her down because she would not drop the poor thing. And we know the death grip they have when something is in their mouths so that was not fun. After finally getting the poor little bird from her (RIP little guy:rip: ) she was so proud of herself. Jumping around w/that little tail wagging a mile and hour and the other little bird sat on top of my kids swingset squawking like crazy. That broke my heart:heart48: . Has anyone elses furbaby done this or brought them something else that they have killed? |
Yes...Chanel caught one in Mid air and Cheri managed to catch one that was very young and just learning to fly....neither birdie made it. I think they died of fright but the girls were very proud of themselves and you just can't fault mother nature......I guess they see them as real live squeaky toys ps...they catch them so quick you couldn't have done anything to prevent it....I was standing right with mine too and there was no way I could have stopped it from happening.....Time to have a little Bird Burial and just hope the other birds learn a lesson and stop flying near the little Hunters |
I don't know what I would have done if that happened. Oh my. I can't get out of my head the tug of war going on. The Egrets are so big in our yard, the kids just bark at them. If we had smaller birds, I could see it happening. |
1 Attachment(s) It's the terrier in them!:D Both of mine have been chasers. Those little birdies better not land in their yard. I was able to save this one simply because Kacee was in the house at the time. You can see the baby birdie just outside the door. |
My first yorkie caught a baby rabbit once, I too was very shocked at how quickly she reacted and chased ant caught it and the way she shook it. We were sitting on the back porch and my husband flushed them up in the field with the tractor and they were heading for the alfalfa for cover and she snagged the one that was closest to us. My present yorkies have captured and killed at least three birds, a frog, a mole and right now are stalking a garter snake in the rock garden, if I were that snake I would get lost in a hurry. |
