I have a Question 1 Attachment(s) As many of you know Mickey had surgery and wasnt eating on his own, then he started eating a little here and there, but still not enough so I still have to Syringe some food into him. well all day today hes been wanting to go outside, but he goes to the garage door and stands there. well I opened the door to see what he wanted. I thought it was because he knew the kittens was in there. But no he went right tothe bags of dog foods we have stored in the garage. Its the food we feed all the strays. its a gerneric brand of dog food. I know the vet said to feed him what ever he wants at this time just to get him stronger an don his feet. well I held the one open bag down to him an dhe grabbed a mouthfull and ate it all and wanted more. My question is, Should I let him have all he wants or not? here is a picture of the food it is, not a very good brand at all. and Im shocked that hes wanting it. |
I would let him have whatever he will eat |
This is just my opinion and what I would do, and others may disagree???? BUT I'd let that poor baby have it. He needs food and if he'll eat it I'd let him to get his strength back. At this point I think anything is better than nothing. Good luck to your little guy! |

I first wanted to say NO!! then I thought about it....first off, I'm thrilled he's wanting to eat anything! And bottom line is...something is better than nothing. They say the cheaper brands of kibble are like junk food....guess it tastes really good with not much nutritional value. It'd be the same as when one of our "skin kids" are sick and we give them whatever they'll eat.....ice cream, ice pops, jello...etc. So sweet little Mickey.....enjoy your "Chunks & Bones"! |
yeah maybe thats why he wants it, junk food. lol Im going to go get him a big bowl of it and let him feel up on it. with all the little bites of this and that, maybe this aint so bad, for now. once hes better hes going to have to stay on his prescription food and nothing else, forever. and he hates it, urrggg. |

Well we brought him a dish of it in, he ate alot more then hes ate sense the surgery. and than about 20 mintues later here he is digging in the toy box for his squeeky toy bone and comes prancing through the room with it in his mouth, ready to play. lol |
Awwwww That's wonderful. :D Man, these little guys can put you through the wringer! Maybe as a compromise, you could give him some more later -- assuming he wants it -- but mix in some boiled meat or something. |
It's very hard isn't it?? When Carley had her accident, we couldn't get her to eat or drink either. We were syringing water into her, but could NOT get her to eat. We cooked chicken and scrambled eggs, just knocked ourselves out trying anything to get her to eat. Finally, we could get her to eat Ceasers. Now, normally I wouldn't give her this, but I was so thrilled to just get her to eat SOMETHING!! We went through about 4 -6 days of this. She is now back on her regular food. I think something is better than nothing at this stage. Good luck and I am so glad Mickey is feeling better. Makes the whole day brighter when you see some semblence of their old selves, doesn't it??:) |
OMG...that is WONDERFUL!!! First, that cheap-o food wasn't even on a recall list - that speaks louder then most of the betterbrand food that is so called good for our babies. Although, I don't feed the cheaper foods to Mojo, but still....just the fact of it all. Second, the vet said to let him eat....let him eat. He needs to eat and OMG....he is eating on his own!!! No help from Momma! I say that is great! AND even playing w/ toys!!! YAY!!!! |
Give him the junk food. Anything to get that little tummy in working order! |
I say let him eat and put some weight on, once he's healthy and back up to speed then try and put him back on the good stuff. I ran into this with my daughter over the past year +. She got mono, twice, lost tons of weight and I was worried about her eating crap because she was queazy all the time. Finally the doc told me to let her eat what she wants because she needed to put the weight back on. Thanks for the great update. Keep it up Mickey. |
hahaha leave it to the kid to want the junk food ! That's great that he wanted to eat   ...As long as the food isn't on the recall list then I agree with everyone - let him eat. Will he eat Chicken or any home cooked foods ? I'm so glad he's doing better :) :) :) |
