Raw feeding question Hi. Reese has terribly bad skin and allergies and I have done a lot of reading on raw feeding. I am still a little hesitant, but know that some YTers follow this diet and am very interested in it. I was looking for some input...and some recipe ideas that do not involve preparing a 3 course meal being that I can barely cook for myself!! I saw online that you can buy some already prepared things (like that BARF diet) but would rather try to do it myself if it is cheaper..I would appreciate any advice from all of you raw feeders!!! Thanks!! |
We use Nature's Variety frozen raw medallions. You can check it out on their website at: www.naturesvariety.com Their diet is complete and very easy to use...I put enough medallions for the next day in a small baggie each night and set it in the fridge and it's thawed and ready for the next day. They have a portion calculator on their website so you can see how much you would feed your dog...our boyz are small so they each get 1 medallion for breakfast and one for dinner and they barely ever touch the dry food I leave down so I know they're getting enough to eat. My Jo-Jo had what appeared to be allergy related issues and since we switched him to NV he's back to normal and both of my boyz love the food. The vet that Oprah had on her show recommends this diet too.....it's a great diet for people who want to feed raw but don't have the time to shop and prepare everything themselves. I spend about $25.00 a month for NV to feed 2 Yorkies. The one they call 'Instinct' is too high in protein for Yorkies though so if you try it go with one of the others. |
http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/index.shtml i heard of this and its dehydrated raw food instead of frozen but im still researching it cuz its kind of expensive |
Do a search for the rawfeeding group on yahoo groups, and join...You will get lots of info on there. We chose not feed raw, but I did join the group to get more info. Maybe it will help your baby! |

You can get a coupon for "buy one, get one free" from their website. You can pick between the raw and kibble. www.naturesvariety.com/tryit/ I tried cooking for them for a couple of weeks. I think this is going to be much easier. |
I did get some sample bags of their dry food, they'll send you some for free if you request it. However, I had some Natural Balance I wanted to finish up so I haven't purchased and NV dry. My boyz were barely touching their dry food after I started them on the raw so I only leave dry down when we're going to be gone past their dinner time. |
My two have been on Natures Variety Raw beef medallions for 3 weeks and they just love it. My male used to have very dry skin but not anymore. They both weigh 3 lbs each and the website says 2 medallions a day, but I give them each 1 1/2 in the morning and 1 1/2 at night. They have not gained or lost weight from switching them over to raw. Have noticed they are more bright eyed and energetic. I'm fed up with all that has been going on in the dog food industry. My two were on a very good brand of dog food that was on the recalled list. From there I switched to making homemade, which is fine and my dogs love it...Got a free sample bag of the Natures Variety Beef Medallions and my Yorkies are now in dog heaven. I still give them some homemade cookin but there base is now RAW. |
